Hey guys, sorry if this isn't the appropriate forum, seemed like the best choice to me.
I have the opportunity to purchase this forum for $300. I was wondering if you feel that this could be a potentially profitable investment, or a waste of money.
It's been up for 2 months and they have 55k posts, over 1,000 per day right now. They have 440 members, there's usually around 20 users online at once.
The site is still growing relatively quickly, there's no shortage of new members and they probably gain about 5 members a day right now, though that number is increasing through some new methods of advertising.
Let me know your thoughts, and thanks a lot in advance.

Well if you won't pay $300 for it, I will. That is an incredible deal JustBlaze. I would pick that up in a heart beat. You could buy it for that much and turn around and sell it for a few hundred more. You could easily make $300 back in a few months with Adsense and other forums of ads.
You don't find deals like that everyday.
That forum has a very loyal userbase which is where a lot of the value comes from.

Its a good deal, although make sure that the members are not dummies or the satistics they gave you are really true to what they say... Just be wary...

Naw, they wouldn't do that, it's free promotion for them. I wouldn't worry about the team logos either.

One thing I would worry about is the .net domain, although for what you're paying that's not a huge deal. What you should do is take a look at any other basketball forums out there and see if there is a market to be exploited there.

that is a good deal.
because a forum with a good growth and activity will be highly rewarding.
and if they are really going to sell it, it will be a better investment for you.

though basket ball is a niche topic, i wouldnt be that agressive, ur money will be doubled in a year that much i can visualise from the growth, it mite grow more depending on publicity u do.

I know the stats are accurate. I've seen screenshots of those numbers in the ACP, and I know the admin, he wouldn't lie to me about it. I'm also one of the top posters there, so I see everyone who registers. (That's also how I found out that it was for sale, I do a lot of work for the forum and the admin told me he was considering selling it.)
Megan, what exactly did you mean by exploiting the market? I wasn't really sure what you were refering to there.

Just to give you guys an update, the deal fell through at the last minute and I didn't get it for $300, he held off until about a week ago and sold it to someone for $800 and 30 websites with custom templates and coding, many of which have decent traffic also. So he made out well, it would have been a steal at the price I almost got it for but oh well.

Yes I think its a good deal as it's an active forum with minimun 1000 post everyday,that's really a good offer.You can get big forums ,lots of members
But it's really dificult to keep the forums active.so less worries for you in keeping the forum active if you buy it.

Yeah I think he could have gotten more for it also, but he's going to sell off those 30 sites I believe so that should bring in some income also.
