I was wanting to use PayPal and simular services to sell a few books. I know this will turn some away but for now I am testing the waters so I dont want a merchant account. Is there anything I need to know about these services before I set it up?

Not really. The only problem is that the customer needs to register at paypal while making the payment. Other than that it is fine, especially if you have a low volume. If you not have more than a few hundred dollars in sales each day, it is not advisable to get a merchant account and it could be a hassle with chargebacks and accounting too.
Good Luck!

Paypal is a great service but isnt avaiable for some countries, so you'd need something else as well.
There are buyer fees using paypal, paypals FAQ isnt the best but if you email them any questions I've found they answer pretty quickly.

I think you're going to loose much business since, as pointed out above, customers have to register with PP, before being able to buy from you. That's going to be a big turn off.
A merchant account is worth while even if your volume is low. You just need to find a good deal.

Hi,
I received a strange e-mail about PayPal the other day with subject 'Is PayPal is going under?'.
I use PayPal for some months now and I never had any problems.

The only times I've heard of PayPal accounts being frozen is when they are used for illegal purposes, which is understandable.
I feel more comfortable using my credit card on PayPal then my bank because under federal law my credit card is protected from theft and other bogus charges. In fact you cannot be held responsible for more then $50 in any case. Bank accounts are entirely different. If you have a good bank they should refund your money but the process will still be very long.
I have not heard anything about PayPal "going under". It sounds to me like a bogus attention grabbing subject line. PayPal has grown insanely this past year and they certainly doesn't have any "money issues".

Agreed.Probably just attention grabbing.
NTL, I have heard a great many horror stories about accounts being frozen and then taking practicall an act of G-d to get the funds unfrozen.
So if you use PP be sure to keep the balance very very low!
