Hi,

I am thinking about making a site that sells templates and menus. The thing is, I don't really know much about payment methods on the internet. My first guess was heading on to paypal.com but it seems that they do not have support for Romania (where I live), so that basically means that I won't be able to withdraw any money I make. On this forum I heard about IKOBO but they only deal with money transfer and i can't use them for selling products (they have a big warning when you sign up).

My second question is about integrating a shopping cart on my site. Where do i get the cart from? does my payment "provider" give me the code to put on my site? or is that a separate thing? is there a free cart system?

Thanks in advance.

I'll answer your last question first. Depending on your Payment Processor (paypal.com, 2checkout.com, etc), they may very well have a limited shopping cart system available to you. I would research several payment processors and see if they have a cart that is sufficient for your need.

My current favorite open source (free) shopping cart is Oscommerce. However, I am a programmer, so have no trouble making extensive modifications when necessary.

As for a payment processor in Romania, I unfortunately have no idea.

Hello aoreste,

Once you have your site design and products/services ready, you should open a merchant account so you can begin accepting electronic payments through your website. In order to receive a merchant account, you need to apply with a processing company. If your expected volume is above $1000 / month, then apply with a processor that will create you a merchant ID and supply you with a gateway solution that integrates into your website (as opposed to using a 3rd party processor and using their merchant account).
The entire application and approval process usually takes less than 1 week if you are not a high-risk business and have all the required paperwork. PM or email me if you want info specific to your business...
Goodluck!!!

Virtuemart is a really good Ecommerce component for the Joomla CMS. It has support for various payment processors of which 2checkout is my personal favourite. There is a really good article on the benefits of ecommerce that might help be useful to readers

True. IKOBO is only for sending money, kinda like Western Union.
I am sure that they are some european payment processing services that you use. Search on Google.

And as everyone already suggested, OsCommerce is a good script to use.
