hi,
this is the story. I want to start a home based business. and I want to accept credit cards through my website. that sounds normal! but the thing is I am not living in the USA, and I don't have a credit card, neither a merchant account (business account). I found paypal and other similar businesses that don't ask for a merchant account. but i don't want to use paypal as it looks not professional, and some of this companies ask my customers to open an account with them to send a payment, and that is just makes the business look really unprofessional.
I was searching in this forum looking for similar situation, but I couldn't find anything.
my question is:
is there any chance that I can accept credit cards online, or it is just impossible?
thanks

By no means does living outside of the United States limit your abilities to have a credit card merchant account. After all credit cards are international and so is e-commerce. Depending on what county you're from, you may have a bit of a fight, however it's defiantly possible. Start by looking at some of the international credit card merchant services on the internet (WorldPay being one of them). You should be able to find some more at onlineorders.net. If that doesn't work contact your local bank.

thanks everybody for the links.

Adam Oberdorfer, I checked a lot of merchants, and all of them ask for a business account from my local bank. as I mentioned before, it's a home based business.
basically it's going to be web hosting(reseller), domain names, web design. no products, just services. so for, I don't have a business account. I have only my personal checking account.
I am living in japan, and I am not Japanese. so to have a business account in my local bank for my situation(home business thing), may be difficult, or impossible. specially with what's happening in the banking system recently in japan.
I am new to all these things, and I was wondering if still there is any chance or solution to accept credit cards online, and have the payments deposited at my personal account.
thanks for your time.

What about another bank account in your own country ?
you dont mention what country your from so its a little difficult, I know non Americans can open a USA banking account but does have its drawbacks, minimum deposit, high fees to start, set credit card limits etc

The only real difference between a personal and business account are the fees, why cant you just tell them your personal account is your business acount?

I am a Japanese citizen, but I am from morocco. I don't have the Japanese nationality.

would it be easier to accept credit cards, if I open a USA bank account, knowing I am not living in USA.
I would appreciate some links to banks who does this.

I think the US citizens will have to give some bank names, I have forgotten the name, I was going to open one when I was addicted to ebay but the fees vs exchange rate wasnt in my favor, its not a common name, like Chase, Bank of America etc.
There are only a few that will let non citizens open accounts online (not in person), if I saw the name I'm sure I'd reconise it.

Sorry cant be more help
