Can anyone recommend an ecommerce package with CMS capabilities that has a 'get a quote' feature instead of the usual 'buy now' or 'add to checkout' features?
Thanks!

I think you would need to build "get a quote" as a custom widget
I'm not familiar with this feature in any ecommerce app
Or you could perhaps customize the ecommerce workflow to include "get a quote" as an interstitial page before checkout
I can imagine how I would do this with Drupal/Ubercart
Perhaps someone else has a better suggestion

Is this for several items, or a single service? I just use a contact form on my website for people to request a quote on my web development services.

My client would have several 'products' and would be adding new ones all the time. The point is that the price would vary depending on who the interested party is. I've seen the Get A Quote feature done very nicely by business catalyst, but there product is outside my budget for this job.

Do you have coding skills? Coding a simple quotation system to fit right into the site (or module for Drupal etc) would be relatively easy if you can code ASP/PHP etc.
A database would house the prices and identifications for who gets what price.

I have some coding skills, but have never gone done the route of coding a module myself before. If I was to go down I would probably outsource the work. If I'm to get some bespoke work done then I'm tempted by Magento or Presta as I really like their offerings.
However, I'd love to hear of an ecommerce package that already has this feature or has a module I can plugin. I believe its more commonly known as RFQ - request for quotation.
