EKM Powershop - Help needed!

Hi all. Wondering if anyone with some experience could cast their eye over a company www.ekmpowershop.com

My impressions are: They seem like a genuine set up. The templates look quite like, well templates, but it is possible to modify them or use your own design.

The business I require an ecommerce site for is a specialist photographic retailer selling rolls of film, boxes of paper etc. - ie the kind of things that, in my view, are a dream to sell on line.

As it stands it seems to be a great package - but I'd be most gratrful if anyone could point out any potential pit-falls!

As long as there is no legal contract stopping you from editing their templates then it is only CSS and HTML code, which can be edited much the same way they created them (might be some Javascript).
Although there likely will be something legal, at least leaving their name within the code.

There are many free open source shop solutions out there though. I cannot really recommend any as I always code my own.
Incidentally, if you have PHP and MYSQL coding experience, you could consider making your own shop and cart setup.
Although, it being worthwhile depends on your circumstances, mainly how many items you have.

Thanks for that Greg. I'm pretty new to everything web design!

Basically I don't have the time (or the expertise) to create a new site from scratch - the ekm solution seems to offer everything on a plate, and no commitment.

Importantly, what I do want to try and do is design a decent look to the site - I notice they talk about "ekm Tags" on the site in the Support section - maybe that is the their code you mention. There is no restriction of either modifying their templates or using your own design. They claim you have 100% control over the look.

I've only just started to learn Dreamweaver and basic coding so it sounds quite confusing to me....but I'm sure I can do something.

What I can't understand is how I can make a design I have made in Dreamweaver work with this ekmpowershop.......I copied and pasted the code from one of their templates into Dreamweaver and it just looked completely differnet and wierd in the design pane - but I guess there is a good reason for that!

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi Matt
Have used EKM power shop with a clint and it worked fine, I prefer prestashop though, its open source.
