E-commerce package recommendations

Hi guys,

I'm currently using an old version of X-Cart and am looking into upgrading. But before I do that I want to know what alternative there are out there that match my requirements. Please feel free to post your recommendations!

The system must:

1. Have multiple stallholder/sellers. People can sign up to our site and sell their goods online.

2. Shoppers can enjoy a multi-cart checkout function. So they can shop at different shops and checkout in one action.

3. Stallholders/sellers can add their shop to more than one category! This is important.

Thanks in advance.

Just try ZenCart. I think it's suitable for your requirements.

The difficulty is finding a package that has multi vendor support. I think this feature is still on the ZenCart Wishlist.

Xcart is the closest I've found, but it's not ideal.

There's a fantastic blog article on the subject of "The elusive Opensource E-Commerce Holy Grail: Multi-Site, Multi-Store".

Magento will also be suitable. Take a look at simplehelix.com - they provide this software within hosting plans and out of them...

Yes, I'm a big fan of Magento. I think it's one of the best ecommerce packages around at the moment. However, its not a true multi vendor solution. Though it does allow you to have multiple store fronts it does not provide the ability for each store holder to login to their account and administrate their own products and store setup.

BTW - I see Templatemonster has finally got some magento themes online!

I'm not sure about multi-store, but Drupal + eCommerce/Ubercart certainly does multi-site.

Sorry, I haven't the time to test whether these modules will do exactly what you need. Sad

Thanks, I've looked at that too - no luck.

We basically require an ecommerce 'mall' type system, but there's nothing credible to suit this yet. Would love a nice web 2.0 style open source solution!

I am not normally one to advocate Joomla! but in certain specialties (eg out of the box dating site) it is a better pre-packaged solution than Drupal.

Perhaps you will find what you are looking for with Joomla Shop Builder or the Sharesale Builder at the same site.

Be prepared to pay $55 to $96 (yup, in Joomla! you pay extra to get the good stuff).

If I were developing it, I would stick with Drupal/Ubercart as JeevesBond recommended.

simplehelix.com uses litespped server - that makes them very fast, what is good for eCommerce sites. But it is incompatible with cpanel. They offer DA instead.

Why all the talk about simplehelix? Aren't they just a hosting company at the end of the day?

It's been really tough to find something with the multi vendor / multiple seller solution whereby each seller can have his or her own store front. The only solution I have found is WPMU with a shopping cart. This is the path I'm going down. I'll let you kno how it goes.

I'm looking, with an eye toward the future, for an e-commerce package that has it all -- easy to use, cross selling, top 10 best seller lists, specials, coupons, customer product reviews, customer order history, real-time shipping calculation, search that actually works (doesn't return irrelevant results) all that jazz! maybe even a mailing list campaigner built in would be nice.

This is an old post. Have serpico found the e-commerce solutions?

Free application sure has its short-coming. You have to keep the application at the most updated version to prevent being hacked.

Hi all,

I just wanted to update this thread as i read it about 6 months ago and i went and bought the "kodemall" platform.

Just want to make sure that nobody else falls for the scam that they are peddling - they do give you a multi-vendor marketplace, however the coding is so bad that nothing can be done with it. it promises that its SEO friendly, but nothing can be further from the truth - i had professional developers that couldn't negotiate the poor coding and recommended that i bin the site and start again - so i have no idea how google's bots would ever be able to get through it!

I bought the platform code for $1250, and then when i saw the mess that was delivered i attempted to get it fixed, costing me another $2000, after this the code was still unworkable and i had to bin the website and lose my money.

The company says that it will give you 90 days of support, but that is an outright lie - it simply gives you access to a support ticket system where the tickets go unanswered for 90 days, then suddenly (when you have to pay for the developer support) they become available to answer your support tickets.

If anyone knows of any multi-vendor marketplace platforms/scripts then i'd be interested to here them, as i've just had a nightmare 7 months trying to get through Kodemall's bullsh*t.
