I have a potential client who sells custom banners. http://www.fastdiscountbanners.com
He gets hits but no one ever buys anything. He wants the custom banner order part reworked to make it easier.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get this accomplished? Is there some sort of shopping cart software out there that would help? Do I have to use PHP to code it?
He referenced www.cafepress.com as a design process he liked.
TIA

I think that you definitely could make use of some sort of shopping system for the website, but even beyond that, the reason he may not be getting any orders is because the website is a bit lackluster and honestly, the banners look very 90s-esque. They are not professional and are probably not very desirable by webmasters these days. People are moreso, if anything, looking for a website design than just a banner and if they do want a banner, they want a great service that will deliver a custom professional looking image. They do not typically want a "ready-made" banner like these.
Hope this can help you and your potential client upgrade to a nice, successful business.

I actually was thinking the same thing but didn't want to tell this to the client. I honestly don't think that redesigning this site is going to do much good since the product isn't the greatest.

Well, in my opinion, here's what you should do. It's a customer, so do the business, but tell him that you think part of the problem may be the product and that you will do what you can to complete the shopping part. This way, when he sees that business does not improve he is not mad at you for not improving his sales and you've still done what you could for a customer.

The depression of sales may be related to lots of things. It is better to have a research to know the customers' feeling then make some modification.
If it is really caused by the design of the website, learning from some successful website or buying a professional template may be helpful.

I don't know, maybe this isn't a solution for a shopping cart. The value of a shopping cart is largely for people buying multiple items. Sounds like what might be prudent is simply a set of custom forms that calc the price then land them on an authorize.net form for payment.
And yeah, their site and products looked a bit aged. I also though it was curious that it took me three clicks to get an example of what it is they do. Should be obvious from the get-go. I though these were web banners until clicked a few times. Then I'm thinking... grommets?

Maybe if the website looked more corporate people would have more confidence?
