I have a couple small clients who have been using them for years. Their service is great if all you need is a simple way to take on-line orders without a merchant account. I've never heard any complaints about payment besides the fact that my mom who uses them had one check delayed. I think (and hope) it was an isolated issue. Let me know if you have any other questions.

what exactly is a merchant acount? is it simply something that allows you to process credit card orders?

Yes, but not technically (it's really not confusing LOL). A merchant account is technically the bank account which the money resulting from your on-line transactions ends up in. A merchant provider or transaction company is what you need if you want to accept on-line payments. They will in tern deposit your funds into a merchant account or almost any business bank account now.
http://www.allbusiness.com/cmt/information/general.jsp?fname=2960 explains the basics of on-line transactions quite well.

Some processors and banks will let you use your current business checking account to receive CC money. But most require a seperate account (the merchant account).
