That depends the nature of your business, how you promote the website and what the website is for.
I built a site recently for a local tradesman (joiner) who works in a 30 mile radius. His website wont likely bring him (many) customers through people searching the internet. As such it isn't really an e-commerce site.
It was mainly for the purpose of allowing somewhere potential customers can go and view his previous work, terms, prices, etc.
What business is it you are wanting an e-commerce site for?

Many people almost engage their business to e-commerce.It gives high opportunity to be known because internet serves as the latest medium of every transaction today.
When we adopt e-commerce in our business den in a way we are opening it to people worldwide making it popular easily without any hard work as such which needed in normal offline business. It also requires less manpower only a computer can server your purpose and also makes the transaction easier.
It does depend on the type of business you are running. Some products and services are easily sold through the web, but others just won't fit as well. For some, you do need that personal interaction that copywriting won't take the place of. I would say though that as we are getting more advanced with our technology, we are starting to accept ecommerce much more in our daily lives.

it depends largely on what type of business you're putting up. not all businesses would need e-commerce to be adopted in the system.
