I went on a trip to Seattle this weekend to work with a client on-site. While I was in Seattle, I met about 15 people who wanted my business card. And ya know what? I don't have business cards. I have never really needed them before, and I don't wear pants with pockets, I'm a shorts and a tee shirt only kinda kid. Usually a client will refer me to someone else and I will contact them, I rarely have to meet them in person to exchange cards.

But I think I really need some cards. Any suggestion on what to put on them? Front and back? Any tips for a portfolio site, I think I really need to get one built. A pic of your card would be nice too Wink

I use cards from moo.com but that's because I only give out cards for photography purposes, not for my web design stuff. That all comes from word of mouth.

I've ordered business cards from Overnight Prints.com in the past. They were nice because you could order just 100 cards for $10 + shipping. Not too bad if you're just starting out and only needing a few business cards to get going.

I have two different cards. Not by grand design, just the way things have evolved. My business card is very good quality and price, a reasonable amount for printing. Although it is not the same, we have brochures for other services we offer, and it's like a dagger in the heart when people scrape up stuff them in their bags. Not many people I know have the appointment card for each visit, so we find that we deliver a new appointment card every time.

You need to make it about you and your business. And since your are more shorts and t shirt kind of person you should make it resemble you, so have more color or wildness to it instead of plain and boring like business people dressed in business attire would have.

Business card design is similar to web design. Sites like Google rule because they are simple and spartan. You only need the basic information on your card. Get people to the information as quickly as possible. One cool thing to consider is putting a QR code on your card that allows them to instantly grab your contact information or get to your portfolio online.

business cards need not be too stylish. as long as important details are there such as name, company name, position, contact numbers, address, and website are there, then you're on the go!
