Hey I'm not new to programming or web design, but I am new to the Online Credit Card taking area and I am building a site that will need to accept payments online.

Can anyone get me started with what I need to do to accept credit cards? Are there any links you can offer that explain this? Are there any legalities I should keep in mind while taking online payments??

Thanks to all who respond,

I'm moving this thread to the e-commerce forum.

Basically, you will need to get a merchant account - this can either be done from contacting your bank or through an online merchant account company. We use http://www.1stamericancardservice.com

Good luck,

Krash,

If you do not want the hassles of a full merchant account or do not anticipate a lot of sales in the first few months then you may look at some options such as paypal, revecom.com, 2checkout.com and propay. Paypal and revecom also have excellent fraud screening. When you are doing your own processing this (fruad) will be a big headache especially, if you are going to accept international payments.

Gurudev,

Thanks I'll defiantly look into those alternative options. Also, I went to your website in your signature and tried to sign up. I verified my email and all that then attempted to use Krash_io as a user name. Submitted the form and an error was returned saying I couldn't have any special characters. So I went back, took out the underscore, reentered my password and tried again, I again got a no special character error. I keep trying and keep getting same error.

Just wanted to let you know..
