Anyone here have a 800 number for business? Do you think it has an effect on your business, on how people perceive you and your business?

I was looking around on vonage after a friend told me I could get a 800 number for cheap there. You can get phone service and a 800 number for about 20 bucks a month. Just order the residential basic plan and get a 800 number for 5 bucks more. Seems pretty cool to me.

Well just make sure you read everything. For the $5.00 a month more for the 800#, you only get 100 incoming minutes. After that you pay 4.9cents a minute.

Also the unlimited residential plan is $25 a month (it ends up being 28.65 after taxes and such in my area, I have it in two locations). Also, might want to check the fine print they have for the difference between a d residential line and business line to see if they actually concider it against their TOS to use a residential line primarily as a business line.

As far as 800#'s go to me, they do slightly indicate a more professional business presence, but that is about it . I have vonage so I don't see an 800# as encouraging me to call since it is "free".

[update: this was supposed to be after the first post, not the second one...]

That is quite good. The only thing better that I have seen is that some of the sites that sell phone cards also offer an 800 service and charge about the same rates as they do for phone cards, like 4-10 cents a minute with perhaps a small monthly fee. I have not looked at it for a few months and seriously considered it, but I use our web site to get leads and then I call people back. If I wanted more business I would try it for sure with the low rates that they have now.

Heck, it also makes it easy to get friends to call you as well if you can give them an 800 number...

I use this company for $10/month:

The nice thing is I can set up the toll free number to ring at any phone. So I normally have it set for my home office phone, but I can change that to my cell phone, my home phone, whatever.
