What's your favorite part about designing web sites? I think for me it's the fact that I can sit at home in shorts and a T-shirt at 4:00 AM and make money.

If I could only figure out how to tele-commute at my day job, I'd be in heaven.

For me it's creating a design / layout which perfectly reflects what I had created in my head. Or already having a design / layout and messing with it (which is the frustrating part) until its perfect.

Call me crazy but at times I spend 5-10 hours on one simple program that is absolutely not working like I want it to and when I finally get it working the way I want to, I often jump up and down Smiling I love knowing that I beat the program and it didn't beat me.

On another note, I don't sit around in shorts but I am often up at 4:00 AM.

The Top 10 things I love about web design:

1) A nine-figure income
2) Thousands of groupies
3) Being Fortune Magazines "Man of the Year"
4) Those guest appearances on Leno
5) Being recognized in restaurants
6) Never get a speeding ticket
7) On the Hollywood "A-List" for parties
Cool Access to the corporate jet
9) All that junk mail from microsoft
10) Did I mention the thousands of groupies?

What, you mean you're not getting all of those things? Boy are you doing it wrong Wink

Really for me it's just being able to transfer my thoughts and such like that from my mind onto an image, basically visualising what I already had embodied inside of my mind, and then giving it form, and shape.

And then there's the money. Smiling

- What I like about designing -
1. Making the actual user interface
2. The feeling of completion after working to get a page to display just right
3. The client's praise as he/she sees the new web site
4. Of course, the money Smiling

- What I DO NOT like about designing -
1. Working with extremely picky clients
2. Working with clients that take a very long time to respond to emails
3. Working with clients that keep changing their ideas in the middle of developing the site

Overall, I think web design is a great industry... Sometimes, though, there are just clients you don't want to do business with.

appreciation and praise is what i like... getting emails from visitors saying things about my site, knowing that there are thousands of people viewing my work around the world (something you can't do in an everyday occupation)

being mentioned by other great and established sites in your area/field/theme

of course i started just so i could practise and learn

I like the responses from the clients - that they are happy with the end results! If it wasn't for the clients (good and bad) then the work wouldn't be as rewarding.

The thing I like best is being able to create something from scratch with basic old Notepad that can be seen around the world.

Not only that, but it's always fun to learn new stuff in the process of designing a site or creating a program.

I love that rush of adrenaline I get when I first get a great idea for a design and just can't wait to put it into some sort of tangible form. I love the process of translating that idea from a basic paper sketch or photoshop mock-up to an actual site. I love the challenge of getting complex layouts and scripts to work properly in both browsers. I love experimenting with new technologies.

I'm retired and fairly new to PC's and the internet. It is hard to say why I like building web pages, there are probably a dozen reasons. All I know is when I started to build my first web page, it was supposed to be just that one single page, I became completely absorbed in it. That single page became four. Not satisfied with the result, I have spent the last 5 months rebuilding. Those four pages have grown to over 150 pages and it is still not finished or posted.

Although I have not made or even thought of making a business out of it, I have built and posted a commercial site for a friend. I was not particularly satisfied with it, in fact it was only supposed to be a draft. But, she liked it the way it was and wouldn't let me make any changes.

I suppose when you come right down to it, what I really like is the doing and learning.

Cheers
