what are some things that you like on websites? In other words, when you go to a site, what makes you say, "Wow, i love that."

i personally like sites with smaller font, and i also think links that open into smaller windows are pretty cool.

Some people are like slinkies, they dont really serve any purpose but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs ...

Small fonts are my biggest pet peeve. Please, make things easy to read!

I like sites with things that I want to read about (or talk about, look at etc.)

I myself love a site that has great designs elements (draws the eye to content) but is unique and well coded. I don't know if I can put my finger on one thing. I really thing its the balancing act of all these areas that makes a page really great.

I really love Zen Garden though. Almost all of those are really beautiful sites (although some are too dependent on graphics).

If you find a site that's hard to read press the Ctrl button and then scoll up or down with your scroll mouse.

That's true, but they should be easy to read without having to do that. I think that was probably Megan's point.

Exactly. A lot of people probably don't even know how to do that. And, if fonts are defined in PX sizes, they can't be resized in all browsers.

Also, if they are used in images and image maps, you can't resize them at all.

Yes, down with small font sizes! (pun unintended Sticking out tongue)

Yeah, I don't think text should be any smaller than 12px, but that little trick does help when you come accross a site with tiny text.

I like sites that are simply coded but have advanced features (image maps, liquid images are awesome tools)

Simple... minimum flash, easy to read and plenty of content. simplebits.com is a good example.

Good content (something I want to know about), good design (again, a bit subjective) and attention to detail.

I love websites that are leaning toward an artistic flash design. Overall presentation is key for me.

I think a lot has to said that many websites, from the most exotic and complex down to the most simple but effective all take a degree of skill and understanding to get working and maintained.

That for me is what I like about websites, theres a certain mystique and 'magic' to it that many folk on the 'outside' are impressed by. The fact that the websites have been created from scratch (most of the time) and a lot of time and effort has gone into them.

It certainly is akin to being a member of an exclusive 'club' being a webmaster. The Jedi Knights of the Internet perhaps?

The 2 things I like about some sites are:
- Speed (Dialup)
- They provide me with what I want
- They do not require me to register in any way

This is so hard to answer - interesting to read though. I think the main points of content, speed, accessibility and useability are the main points that make a good website.

As for making me jerk-back in my seat and say: "Wow!" it takes something else that can't be defined, for example: http://www.joshuaink.com made me say wow at the design, whereas http://www.1976design.com amazes me because of the cross-browser functionality and the fact that Dunstan made the CMS himself.

I want to see a decent colour theme and another font than Times New Roman Smiling I'm a bit shallow, I want to see the webmaster has invested some time into making a pleasant site, secondly I want to see good content. If the place looks nice and is "smart" I stick around and why not, even recommend it to others.
