I have no problem sleeping. I am an almost 50 year old chasing an almost 3 year old all day Monday-Friday, so I am wiped out at the end of the day, and often will crash on the couch for a nap before making dinner.

I also take 2 nightime pain releivers each night that knocks me out, I have arthritis and heel spurs so they help the pain, and what is in them for a sleep aid is Benydrl which I take for allergies anyway.

I don't sleep well away from home though.

I just play video games until I get sick and tired of it and the only thing left to do is to drift off to sleep.

Just killing time till school starts; I imagine I will have no trouble sleeping after that.

Usually I'll do the same as some others here: read a book. Lately though I just haven't felt tired at bedtime so will stay up all night. Quite often I'll sleep one night, then stay awake the next night. Not something I'd recommend though, probably because I'm a little obsessed with my work. Smiling

Just a little Wink That's okay, I get the whole bed to myself Smiling

I've had trouble sleeping since high school, and for a long time I really had a hard time with it. I'd turn the light on and read for awhile, but still wouldn't be able to fall asleep again. Then I tried a variety of herbal supplements that didn't work. I do use melatonin quite often if I'm having a bad night.

Usually, though, if I can't sleep it's because I either ate something wrong or did something wrong. I have a gluten intolerance and one of my (weird) symptoms is insomnia. If I eat more than a little wheat I have problems sleeping. Unfortunately I went through many tired years before I figured that out.

The other possible problem is that I didn't relax enough before bed - often either working on the computer or doing stuff around the house. I always try to shut the computer off and relax for the last hour before bedtime -watching TV or reading or taking a bath. Turning the computer back on would be the last thing I would do if I couldn't sleep - makes my brain start working again. Usually I either just tough it out, turn on the light and read for awhile longer, or take a sleeping tablet if I'm really desperate.

When I was younger, I would spend more time on the computer until my eyes hurt and I had to sleep. Or I would read whatever book I was on at the time. However, now I take a restless night as an invitation from God to pray and to study the scripture. Jesus has really used some of these times to teach me in such a way that I have changed my goals in life to reflect what I have been shown.

Lol...

I had a bit of a problem with sleeping early in the year. Invariably it was because i had something on my mind.

As Megan has said, digestion can be a reason too. You could take a nice bath...read a book while you're at it.

For me, it was simply organisation. I had too many things on my mind, being worried about how i was going to keep up and how i was going to remember it all. By sorting myself out, it took the load of my mind and allowed me to sleep. I'm practically out as soon as my head hits the pillow!

The first thing my Cognitive Science tutor told me was that the most damaging thing for your brain (chemically) is lack of sleep, so is an important thing to get regulated.
There are many reasons for not being able to drop off to sleep too so it's not always the easiest to pin down. Changing your sleeping routine is the first thing to try though, it may be someting really simple like stopping looking at a screen for an hour before bed or a glass of warm milk (if it reminds you of childhood that can be one of the factors to help you sleep!)

I listen to the radio, BBC World Service mostly. I get to catch up on all the major news stories with my eyes closed. After an hour or two, I'm so tired from all the information I just have to doze off.

Watch a film or program that I hate, will usually send me off to sleep, the same works with dull books. If Its something I like keeps me awake and wanting to get to the end of the story.

I've had some trouble sleeping recently in addition to some minor health issues, and I've found that following doctors' advice really does help! How 'bout that.

I've given up any kind of soda/pop after 6:00 PM, and I'm trying to give it up completely due to all the sugar and artificial flavoring, but I must say that I've been able to get to sleep much sooner and have rested quite well. I think (as someone earlier said) that establishing a regular schedule is a great way to sleep well. I get up every weekday morning that I have school at 6:00 AM and am in bed sometime around 11:00 PM, and on the weekends I'm typically up an hour later and wake up at 8:00 AM. I never get up after 8:00 AM unless I had some kind of strange event the night before that kept me up later, and those days I usually feel tired all day. Even though this isn't exactly a consistent day-by-day schedule, it's a great weekly schedule that keeps my body regulated and I've noticed a lot of changes.

If you're having any problems, checking out your sleep patterns is a great place to start. Wink

Most people who have trouble sleeping are partly worried about the consequences it'll have on their performance the following day. It's important to relax in the knowledge that we can still perform well on as little as 6 hours sleep (though it's best to aim for 7-8 hours generally). It's advisable to not sit and worry about your not sleeping, but to get up and do something mindless like re arranging the cupboard or putting your clothes away. Nothing too stimulating like watching TV or reading (though some swear by these activities too).

Best routine for sleep:

*Have a full day awake, no naps.

*Get some exercise with fresh air.

*Don't eat too late (especially carbs) or drink coffee past 6.

*Keep away from your computer before bed or any other intense visual stimulus.

*Have a hot bath.

*Read in bed.

*Keep your room cool (your body needs to lower in temperature in order to sleep)

*Lavender on your pillow also relaxes the body.

I found that blackout blinds helped me sleep, I live by a busy road and the street lights used to always keep me awake.

I got mine from here:

Going on the computer in the evening somehow makes my mind more alert, and keeps me awake if I spend too much time reading on the web. So I try to log off as early as I can, then find something to read that will tire my mind.

If I have trouble falling asleep, what I don't do is worry about having trouble falling asleep. I just try to relax, with breathing or even just telling myself that I will fall asleep and wake up refreshed and relaxed in the morning. Self-hypnosis really works for me, and luckily I don't have to resort to sleeping pills.

If I can't sleep I just follow these advises:
Make your bedroom more comfortable, keep it cool and quiet.
Get up and do something else. Then, go back to bed.
Drink warm milk or hot water before you go to bed.
Take a warm bath, read a little or listen to some quiet music in the evening.
Get fresh air and exercise during the day, but remember: exercise before bed can keep you awake.
Go to bed and get up at the same time every day.
Don't take naps during the day.
Avoid coffee, tea or soft drinks after 5 p.m.
Don't smoke or drink alcohol in the evening—it can keep you awake.
Don't eat spicy food in the evening.

These there is so much of work, actually so much of work that actually doesn't pay me well yet I have to do it for whatever financial benefits I gain. So I just keeping thinking about my work and therefore I just cannot get enough sleep to remain fresh the next day. This can also be attributed to as some suggest the drop in the level of melatonin hormones which results in sleeplessness.

I haven't consulted a doc yet but I've been thinking on those lines too.

The best way to get to sleep is to have a cool room, a comfy mattress and a dark room. With longer evenings and earlier mornings, the light is quite often a main cause for disturbed sleep. Try installing a blackout blind to keep the room dark during the summer months.

We got ours from here; fabric blinds

Did somebody say alcohol? I agree with that and voluminous amounts of it too. Nothing makes you fall into a deeper sleep than being three sheets to the wind.

...Maybe a blow to the head but I'd advocate alcoholism over that to begin with.
