has sample layouts and lets people type in content, upload images and publish their pages, without knowing HTML. People can create multiple linked pages and are allowed 100MB of storage on the service...nice

Great, Google is at it again! Any samples of the websites this thing produces?
It's really just another take-off on what tripod, geocities, yahoo etc. have been doing for years so I don't think we should be all that worried as web designers. I'd like to know how this thing helps people make more "useful, attractive" and "high-quality" web pages when the others haven't been able to make that happen.

Agreed, the Google search pages aren't even standards compliant so it's doubtful this thing will be.
*sigh* I've been saying this for a few months now: Google is evil. Microsoft wannabies, and that's not a good thing.

Looks like there's no need to worry. Just in case you were.

Thanks for posting that, Tim. This does look like a new take on the old Geocities type accounts that everyone used to have. A good way for people to get started creating basic web pages, but no real threat to Professionals!
I am a little uneasy about google expanding into this kind of territory...
Wow, I remember the days when 25MB was lots! actually, I really fail to see how a site like that could take up anywhere near 100MB. That's lots of room for pictures and stuff.
(I actually had to reload that site in IE because I thought I was missing the stylesheet or something!!)

Lol! You actually probably were missing the stylesheet. But so is everyone else. Only because it's mirrored. Of course, SlashDot obliterated the original site.
