Hi all,

just got a letter from my accounting office requesting me to send a business card to a seven year old girl in Portugal, why?

The thing is that this girl is very sick and soon will leave this world. But before this she would like to get in the Guiness Book of Records for the most business cards collection. So if you would like to help you can send one business card to the address below to keep the spirit up for this girl. If you know of other people that would like to help please forward the address, but remember only one card per businessname is allowed in the rules set by the Guiness Book of Records.

Please send it to:

Sonja Christina Magnehours-Semana
Rue de Sant Lucian 783 1a
4200 Porto
Portugal

I am aware that this has nothing to do with hosting, webdesign, marketing or so, but when children are hurting I think that we all can offer to help a little. Thats why I put the post here, to help her to reach her goal to make it to the record books, the other I can't.

Thanks.....

I'd send a card or two if someone just wanted to get into the world records but when people put the cancer dying 7 year old girl stuff it just bothers me....

Actually Ted, this is the real thing. At least I think it is. I was talking with the local postmaster and he is collecting cards as well. He told me that a little 7 year old girl was dying of cancer and that the one thing she wanted to do was make it in the Guiness Book of Records... To do that, she decided to collect business cards. Now, he asked me for one and said that the Chamber of Commerce in our town has put together about 5,000 cards so far that they will be sending her. This is all going through the Make a Wish Foundation so I think it is very legit.

Ted,

I know exactly where you are coming from. I can't honestly PROVE that this is real but the Chamber of Commerce for our city is working on it so I figure it must be legit.

If it isn't, you're only out one business card. If it is, you have helped a little girl get one card closer to something she is living for.

Don't be ashamed Smiling ... Like I said, I completely understood where you was coming from but I thought I would share my experiences with you. I wish it were not real because it is so sad but I am sure it is real. I only hope she reaches her goal!

Hello again,

Well, I could write a long post trying to give my view but I think that Chad did put it very well, thanks Chad. I did post in an other Forum and quickly got accused for spamming. That kind of makes me sad, all that's on stake here are a couple of stamps and a business card (and the time to mail it).

Best regards and thanks for helping.

I will send my card too Smiling,
Unfortunately there are many dishonest people who claim to be collecting things "e-mail" addresses for one for the sake of a dying child--- I went so far as to contact the hospital of the supposed dying child once before i forwarded the message, glad I did because it was a hoax. That's probably why you were accused of spamming -- it's sad when "sick" minded people do things like that it only hurts when a real children who may have one legitamate request. maybe someone will give her a trip to disney land for all of her efforts.

take care,
Carolyn

Sabrina,
That message just seems like spam to me, you gave a link that makes you money and plus that thread was pretty much over. I don't think that message was really necessary, it would have been ok if you didn't put your referral link in my opinion. By the way I would send a business card but I don't have any so sorry.

Hi, I know of a service that you can make your website made on postcards. I thought that if people are sending business cards, they can also send business information (similar to information on business cards) on postcards. The site is here: http://www.printing.com/affiliate.asp?site=fxdigital. You can also get a free sample to see how it looks. I got one by the mail with a brochure offering services of what they do - Web Cards. Then you can order 500 or so for approx. 100 dollars or so. If you mail one of them to her it would be a great accomplishment.

On a personal level, I hope she does make her dream come true especially for someone at a very young age to know that they will leave the world and miss out on their future. She really deserves this.

Sabrina

By the way, Carolyn she deserves that trip even if she doesn't get 1000 business cards.

P.S. Out of curiosity, how many business cards has she gotten yet? I really want to know! The idea of knowing the number of cards she receives shows how mush people care. I'll send her my dad's business card if... I find one!

Yup, it was spam (at least I'm admitting it and being honest, okay?). But I would like to know how many she got so far or when she hits the 1000 mark or someting like that.

I'll see if I can still can send a business card inet!

To Sabrina (and anyone else this may concern),
Please do not use affiliate links in posts. I ask this not because I am contrary to you making money Smiling but because it encourages people to post useless messages just to get an affiliate link up. This is not in spirit of TWF and will not be tolerated.
Thanks for understanding.

About Web Cards,

I do not recommend using their service at all. I bought some cards from them earlier this year and they are not a very good company. Then sent me some poor quality cards and I wasn't going to pay more money to send them back because of their own mistakes. My cards had a different shad and some completely messed up. I was very disappointed when I received them. I sent them a letter by postal mail with 8 cards to show them examples of the crap I received. I never heardm word from them. I have sent them tons of emails, just asking for an apology and the stupid cards didn't mean much. After they ignored me for months, I have sent them emails to their president telling him what happened and so on, but he knows he was wrong and he just ignores me. He probable thinks I'm just one customer and I wont do much harm. When I received them, I called him up, Joe, and he said to send them back. I then just sent the letter, like earlier said, because I wasn't going to spend my money for his dumb mistakes. At least he can make his employees check the products before he sends them, right?

I highly do not recommend them.

Thanks
Curtis

I'm just new to this forum so forgive my newcomer status, but is this for real? I'm afraid it has all the hallmarks of a classic urban myth, the likes of which are very well documented in the research of Jan Van Brunvald and covered on sites like http://www.geopages.com/Heartland/Ranch/5212/netlore.html and http://snopes.simplenet.com/index.html Sorry if I missed the point.

Please stop!
Visit www.makeawish.org before getting involved in this hoax!
This has had many faces over the years, but it is still a hoax that Make A Wish Foundation has nothing to do with, but has to spend hard raised funds to combat the after effects!

What I don't understand is if this is a hoax, (which anyone would obviously suspect) who would receive these business cards? What would someone do with them???
