Started a thread like this a while back, and thought it was fun. It also helped me to get an idea of the personalities I chat with (outside the textbox). The idea is to stop what your doing and take a screen shot of your desktop (don't cheat by stopping and throwing all your garbage in the electronic recycle bin).

Here is mine: http://www.seemecreate.com/archive/screen.jpg

That's my son fishing at Mt. Raineer, WA.

Looked kind of like Homesite there at first but on closer examination, it is Cold Fusion.

Here is mine at work

Here is the picture that I have on my desktop of my son

Yeah, it is pretty good on Windows machines. I use it to connect to my 3 Linux servers at work and various websites.

Look closely at what I am typing.

rm -r will do the job. You only need -f if your system has rm aliased to rm -i.

current desktop 195KB (I just got back to my machine, that's why there's nothing running.)

older desktop 228KB (file's "date modified": 2002-03-22)

Wil, there is no spoon.

PDF worked for me. But I got a Q... is it possible for a macy to take a screenshot without it being PDF? That's the second mac screenshot I've seen in about a week, and they've both been PDF.

I forgot to mention, my current desktop is spanned. That's why it looks weird. The right side is the laptop 15" LCD, and the left side is the spanned 19" CRT.

Definitely possible to take a screenshot without it being a pdf. If you take a screenshot and display it in Preview, you can save it as a number of image types, pdf being the default.

ImageWell, which I use for screenshots as it includes an ftp and an annotation function, saves as only jpg or tiff.

Here is an annotated version. ImageWell resized it to 640x480 (at my request) and allows different compression levels.

Had to edit it a little to keep aim and ICQ names out of the picture. Smiling

To the folks with a whole screen of short cuts -- how the heck do you find anything?!

It's easy, you just set them and once you've used them for so long you get used to where everything is.

hey, nicora! I'm using that background on my blog!

I totally cannot stand that many bits. I use the dock (and on a pc, the office tool bar) to store applications and only have a few folders on the desktop (logically named and with appropriate icons).

The screenshot image in Mac OS X is called 'Grab'. I was too lazy to fire it up and used apple-shift-4 (equiv. to print-screen on a PC) to take a default shot of PDF.

And no, there's no spoon.

I had such fun cleaning off my boyfriend's desktop the other day. I also had to run spybot and found a whole ton of crap. He was one of those people who clicked on all the links in spam e-mails. He also left any icon any program installation created on the desktop and the quick launch bar. I think I have him trained now Smiling

As for shortcuts, I have all mine organized into neat little toolbars. Here's a random shot - sorry if it takes awhile to download, I didn't feel like opening up Photoshop.
