Question for ya brits...
Ever seen the fish that makes up 'fish n chips'?
A fellow fisherman told me that the fish is skate...
Ever seen a skate??
Ugly creature
Is it skate? it's a type of ray but without a stinger or anything

I thought it was halibut! or cod!? usually is around here, anyway, and when I was traipsing about in Britain/Ireland.

Mostly it is cod or haddock but some shops will sell skate.
The slang name for a sailor here is skate, as in olden days when sailors were away at sea for years on end they used skates to perform certain sexual favours! In towns populated by naval personel, women who go out looking to pick up a sailor are referred to as 'skate bait'

I thought the cod was now being replaced as it's become rare or something?
