The new release of Mozilla's Firebird is out (only a couple hours ago, I think), but with a new name: Firefox. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
Branding the beast has been an issue with the old Firebird, but it looks like they've settled with a new name and logo. Hopefully it'll stabilise with this. It looks like Thunderbird (now at 0.5) will keep its name, though.
I've been waiting for this release for about a month now. The new features look very interesting. Most notably, for Windows users, there is a new installer for the software. If you aren't already using Firefox (hmm, still getting used to the sound), now might be a good time to try it.
But I'm on Linux, and my main concern has been performance and stability, so I can't wait to give this one a go.
Have fun.

Glad to see they've got their branding sorted - they haven't got a hope against M$ if they didn't fix that.
Now all that's needed is for all those IE users to realise there's a browser available which actually supports CSS - hmmm, unlikely. Or Microsoft could release a browser which works...Hmmm, even more unlikely.

I'm using Firefix right now, and I can't say they've done a bad job of it.
The new Downloads manager is very slick, and importing bookmarks was a breeze, as it should be. The new About dialog looks neat too.
I haven't got to trying extensions yet as that site is down due to the amount of traffic. Maybe later.
Firefox is a little bit faster out of the box, but that may just be because the XUL hasn't eroded yet.
Overall, I'm reasonably impressed so far. Can't wait to try it with extensions now.

I hear it is great. I know a lot of people switching to it. But I am Internet Explorer all the way.

Flash 7 plugin? Try http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/faqs/phoenixwin.html to add required registry entries. The installer should've added any necessary plugins, though.
If you don't install the plugin, you'll get an annoying popup everytime you encounter a Flash movie, asking you to install a plugin. Use the Flash Click to View extension to get around that. (Use it even if you have the plugin.)

Hi Y'all. I've always known Mozilla, Opera, and other alternative browsers existed but never really cared other than checking how my sites displayed. I never even heard of Firefox (of Firebird or whatever). Then just today I was on a script's support forum and saw a logo on the bottom that just caught my eye for some reason and intrigued me. I clicked on it to see what it was about.
It sounded interesting so I downloaded this mystery browser, just out of curiosity. WOW! I'm so glad I tried this out. It is noticably faster! (and tabs are cool too.) I love it! I've only been using it for 10 or 15 minutes so far but I think I may be switching over. I had to run to TWF to see if you guys were talking about it.
Woo hoo!
Nip it in the bud!

I downloaded it yesterday too and boy is that thing every fast! I think Opera might have to restate their claim on that one
Extensions are really cool too. So many possibilities (and I can have mouse gestures!). That almost makes me a convert .... There are pros and cons of both, I guess
