Call it association football, soccer, calico, futbol, futebal or any of the dozen other linguistic variants; this is the greatest and most popular game by far. More than a game, it is a passion, a common denominator that knows no political boundaries and helps break down man made barriers. It has developed its own culture and financial power.
World cup soccer is surely the single biggest sporting extravaganza on this planet rivalled perhaps only by the Olympic Games in terms of spectator interest and international prestige.
Hope you guys have interest in soccer and watch too. Being a soccer lover which country would you support in World Cup'2006?

I look forward to it.
I have no real preference of team, but based on previous Cup efforts I might like to see France or Germany reach the finals.
There is also a playful 'anyone-but-Australia' approach that's popular in NZ, but I think the inverse: if Australia does well in the tournament, it'll probably be a boost for the sport in the whole region, so maybe I'd like to see that too.

 I don't believe it! Sacriledge! It's a good thing you weren't in the UK when you expressed that opinion. Go and wash your mouth out, come back and tell everyone who you would really like to win: England!
Bloomin' Kiwis.
Also, it's not soccer! It's football!

But of course! I thought you'd understand that was implicit! I'd like to see France or Germany reach the finals only to be crushed by the supreme might of England!

It's kind of strange that football has never caught on in Canada seeing as how most of our population originally came from soccer (erm, football, sorry) loving countries. I know it's really popular with the students who go to the university I work for. There's even a big scoreboard up in the cafeteria downstairs. Any sports fans around here are busy watching the Stanley Cup playoffs this week (Go Edmonton!)

I think I'm one of the few ones who'll let this slip unnoticed. I am not a football fan

As a huge football fan I've been looking forward to the world cup ever since the club team I support's season finished. I would like to think people in other countries (where football isn't as popular) appreciate just how much of a great tournament it is.

Do people have car flags up in your countries? We were making fun of people in England when I was there last week. Everyone knows you're English
! They had them all over the houses too. Okay, so Liam makes fun of all the Canadian flags up around here for no reason at all. We don't have that many though.
Here it's a lot more interesting: just since I got back on Monday I've seen quite a few England, a France, two Germany, Portugal, Argentina, Korea, and a Trinidad and Tobago.
