The trees in the backyard are starting to bend pretty good now. Hopefully I can get this posted before the power goe

I think it would be awesome watching telephone poles busting in half, until it sets in that your house is going to be next, and maybe you!!

The power hasn't actually gone out yet, I'm just trying to force a sense of humor on myself. Smiling

It's getting bad, so I'm surprized it hasn't. I just wish this thing was hitting during daylight hours. I hate not being able to see what's going on.

Damn. A tree just fell on the house. No damage that I can see though.

Time to go mix another drink Smiling

Wow, I can't imagine experiencing something like that! I'm lucky to live in a place pretty much free of natural disasters Smiling

I hope things go okay for you Smiling

The power went out in that region in the early hours of the morning and there are estimates of 3 weeks until it will be restored. Pensacola itself had some mad damage. A friend just moved there and he said a lot of homes in his neighbourhood ended up with tree damage. Scary. Sad

...thats why you should live in California, where I want to goto college next year and want to live. All you have to worry about is the occasional earthquake and forest fire. No hurricanes, typhoons, tropical storms, nor'easters, etc....

Oh yeah...but it's all worth the risk, because of the weather, location (things out there), and skate scene!

Ok, I'm back. The best phrase I can think of to describe it here is:
Mr Bug, meet Mr Windshield!
What you may have seen on the news just can't compare with taking a ride through a random neighborhood. It looks like a tornado was turned loose on every city block. The tree on my house punched a hole in the roof and water was pouring in through the light fixture in the upstairs bathroom. I thumbtacked a trash bag to the ceiling and threw the other end over the shower curtain rod so it would drain into the tub (just an example of redneck engineering for you.) And just when I thought that everything was getting back to normal on Tuesday, I found out that my grandmother had a stroke (probably worrying over us), so I had to go to Tallahassee to be with her.

I'll try to get some pictures online this weekend. Also, when everything was getting really scary, I put my camera on movie mode and stuck it out the back door for a short clip. You can't see anything of course, but it will give you a good idea of what a major hurricane sounds like.

Wow, thanks for that, that'd be interesting! Any word on Jeanne wandering through, too? Seems like nature wants to make sure every part of Florida gets an ***-kicking!

Hush. I don't want to hear about Jeanne Smiling

I want to get out there tomorrow and help out all who have been helping us. We've heard about all who have come in to assist, but, coming back from Tallahassee today, it all comes into perspective. I passed long lines of military convoys, tree service companies and electric companies from many different states. We've had people from Missouri, Ohio and even Canada. Most of these groups were probably diverted from the previous storms and maybe now going back to prepare for the next one (Jeanne.) How long has it been since they've been home?

I've choked up several times over my grandma, but I'm equally emotional about the unity that has been shown from this great nation!

I'm sorry I missed the part about your grandmother in the middle there. Sad I hope she recovers and it's not too serious...

Now that I've had a chance to catch up, here's the file as promised. It's a 407k Quick Time File. (it may be best to right-click and save)

Did anyone see the pictures in the news of the sections of bridge missing from I-10? As the crow flies, I live about a mile from there. If you want to see some good pictures of the area, go to the local paper's site. There's some photo gallery links in the right column. They are much better than any pics I took Smiling

Oh wow, I feel so bad for people down there! My step-MIL is in Vero Beach. Man, I'll take New England winters/Nor'easters/blizzards/icestorms any day!

Stay safe....it lools like Jeanne is going to whack Florida. Sad

Yeah, my Uncle and his family live outside Palm Beach...their whole neighborhood got destroyed, except for their house. He works at the nuclear power plant, so he goes and stays in the bunkers there, because he has to be there anyways (he's like Plant Manager or something), and the rest of the family goes up to TN to visit family.

And another one bites the dust...

I know people in Pensacola, what an incredible sight that bridge going out was, and all those beach homes. Sad
