How fast is your internet connection?

I get about 2500k download and 300k upload with Comcast cable. I have a wireless setup, but if I connect the computer directly to the router I can get up to 12mps which doesn't make much sense to me because the wireless-g stuff claims to transfer data a lot faster than 12mps. Confused

If I'm reading this right I get 30654k download and 1609k upload here at work. It will be interesting to see how it differs from home!

Comcast Cable - Massachusettes:
Download - 7785kbps
Upload - 729kbps

*Edit* I pay a little extra for Comcasts' 'extra speed'.

I'm hooked to a wired router, but my PC is the only one on it until my son get's the wiring done to hook up his PC which is upstairs.

Hi,

Wireless speeds can be drastically affected by interference of many types. First thing is to move your computer as close to the router as you can. Does that increase the speed? If so, the problem is something between the two (our wifi always dies if we turn on our microwave!). If you have a wall containing solid metalwork that can cause interference as well, as can certain types of lighting or anything that's magnetic. External sources can also interfere (i.e. Christmas decorations on a neighbours house are a frequent culprit during December!). Also, if you have neighbours on the same wireless channel it can interfere, so use a wireless channel that's not in use (you can get software that lists other wireless networks in the area).

Well, you may want to use the actual Speedtest.net site and test at a location closer to you for a more accurate speed test.

Just because you are connected to the internet from Tamil Nadu Inda, and the web site you posted as your first post upon joining here (to a message thread that is over two years old BTW) is also registered to someone also in Tamil Nadu India, does not mean it is the best connection, especially since the site is hosted in Scottsdale, Arizona...

The above and the fact that you have posted the exact same message to at least one other forum as your "first post" there too, somehow makes me wonder if that this post's sole purpose was self-promotion of your site...

I have a pretty good connection here
2 mb/s up

I'm about to be forced to change providers twice in the next month, so it will be interesting to compare.

One thing that can really effect the speed of internet connection is when the network is being congested. Usually that kind of internet connection is a shared type. It's really good to go for a business plan of internet connection which is usually 3mb and up. I used to have that kind of speed which is 4mb. A bit expensive but as long as it gives the good speed there's no issue on it for me.

Speedtest is the best tool to check how fast your internet connection is. I have this kind of connection which is 5mb/sec but at first it seems to be have low connection because its set to be dynamic and I can't get the full bandwidth because I just know that if its a dynamic one, then it's a shared connection. Well I switch to static type and my connection is been fast already. It's really good to have a static type of internet connection.

When there are a lot of users to connect to the Internet will slow connection, or you could get dropped off the Internet together. This happens a lot for users of cable Internet because cable companies use copper as the basic structure of their network.
