Hi all,
I haven't been here for awhile and would like you to do me a favor. I am trying to get a web site award that requires people to vote on my site.
Would you go to my site at http://214onthe.net/Awards.shtml and click on the scout merit award to vote my site as the best scout site on the net?
Alternately you can just click here http://www.geocities.com/scoutmerit/?id=900068
Thanks for your time.

Is an award based on campaigning rather than merit truly worth winning? Walking into a sports shop and buying a giant 1st place trophy is far less satisfying than earning one for 3rd place.

Maverick,
If you don't feel that my site is better than all the others listed on the scout merit site don't vote for it. I ask for help because my site only gets 5 hits a day on average. Several of the sites I am competing against get that much in an hour. By comparison I feel that my site is better made and more attractive. If I can get people to look at my site in comparision I feel that they will vote with confidence. Kind of like Al Gore and George Bush campaining.
Again you don't have to vote for me. If you want to look at all the sites first go to http://www.geocities.com/scoutmerit/
Nuff said.

I went the Scout Merit site. But there was no list of participating sites. So although I want you to have the award, I did not vote at all because it's not possible.

Jim,
Your site might or might not be the best scouting site on the net, but we would have no way of knowing where it stands. You didn't post a list of competing sites so that an informed decision could be reached, you merely posted a direct voting link so that you could inflate your numbers without anyone seeing your site or the competition. That's akin to stuffing a ballot box. How is that different from setting up a script that hammers the voting page constantly? I have sympathy for your cause if you're going up against sites with higher traffic as they have a huge leg-up in the voting process. But will you really feel good about winning if the win was based on dishonest, solicited votes rather than votes that were earned?

I didn't intend to have you just vote for me. I just forgot to give the url for the merit site. My bad.
I found out that the scout merit site doesn't work if you are using IE5 for the MAC.
Anyway, for those of you who know me, you know my intent was not to be deceitful or dishonest. I just want some pats on the back. Also the award is not based only on the voting but is a average of the judges score and the voting.
Maverick, thank you for calling me on this.
