Hi!!!! I'm here in an internet cafe in San Juan, just down from our hotel. The weather has been great - nice and sunny and warm but a little windy. We're all a little sunburnt today. Tomorrow we'll be more careful
I'm travelling with four students so we're trying to do everything on the cheap! Our hotel is simple but clean, just a block or two from the beach. We've been trying out some of the local food and are looking forward to checking out a nightclub later tonight.
The beach is great - probably not as nice as those at more expensive resorts but we're loving it. The waves are huge by Lake Erie standards so it's a lot of fun to play in the water. Have to be careful of the undertoe though.
We're planning on renting a car for a few days and travelling around to see other parts of the island. There is a rainforest to see as well as some caves that sound interesting. We also want to take a boat trip to some islands off the coast.
Anyway, my time is running out here so I'll be off! See you all on the 15th!!!
P.S. I hope problems in MC are resolved. Hope I didn't cause more problems there.

Megan! Whoo!
I wouldn't have thought we'd have even crossed your mind in the lovely weather!
It's surprisingly mild here and everything is melting, including parts of some roadways being eroded by the water. There is a flood watch on the river. Whee!
Photos, photos, photos!

Maybe try snorkling. (I'm assuming they have snorkling in Puerto Rico.) My aunt and uncle snorkled in Costa Rica (this last summer, I believe) and they got some cool photos (disposable underwater camera).

I'm such a dork. Every time somone from our group is coming to the cybercafe I'm the first one to tag along!
Today we're headed to Old San Juan which should be fun. I'm a bit of an architecture geek too so I'm looking forward to that. There's also an old fort there from the Spanish-American war so that should be interesting. We've all got sunburns today so it's a good idea to stay away from the beach
We found a tour to take us to those islands I mentioned and it includes snorkeling!!! I'm excited about that too.
Well, that's all for now!!!

Glad to hear it's snowing back home!!!! LOL
Had a bit of time to spare so I thought I'd drop in. It's been a busy couple of days. Yesterday we went to the rain forest which included a two hour hike to the top of the mountain (one way). It was worth it - great view of this end of the island. Today we travelled to teh south side of the island to visit a little island there called ... get this ... Gilligan's Island!!!!! Actually, it was Guilligan's island but close enough. Nice lagoon for swimming and everything.
Three days to go! My travelling companions are starting to get on my nerves so I'll be happy to be home soon.
I've got three rolls of film done so far (including 1 roll of 36) and am well into my fourth. Nobody else seems to want to take pictures, except of people, which you can see anytime

When I do shoot film, I go through it fast (I'd rather have a roll I hate, than miss the roll I should have shot). I really enjoyed developing B/W film in a photography class, but haven't had an opportunity to pick it up as a hobby.
My dad nearly has a digital camera permanently attached. He's gotten really good at it too. He gets some amazing colors with it during sunsets and sharp, vivid colors shooting flowers and whatnot. I just can't get the same shots with a digital camera. Not yet anyway.

I'm HOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEE
:(
I had a stop-over in Cleveland so I feel your pain
Detroit wasn't bad at all but Kitchener was quite a mess last night.
I'll be bringing my film in tonight but may cheap out and get the 3-day processing so they might not be up for awhile. I can also get them put directly online but I might be too cheap for that too. (spent enough on this holiday already!). Haven't gone digital yet, because, as you know, I'm too cheap. No, really, I don't use my camera enough to invest in a better one. I probably took more pictures in the past week than I have in the whole three years I've had this camera!

The tan is good! Within two days all my freckles had come out again. I'm thinking about going to a tanning salon just to maintain until summer (those things are supposed to be really bad for you though...) How vain.
I had quite the annoyance getting my photos done last night. I stopped at two places and neither of them knew what I was talking about when I asked for an online photo album (both advertise it on their website). So I asked about CD's, turned out the first place was cheaper but I really didn't want to have to go back there again so I settled for plain prints. Oh, and they won't be ready until Friday
Since one hour service is really 1 1/2 hours I figured I might as well save some money. Oh well, gives me time to find a gallery script and get it set up. And figure out how to recover the CD's that got stolen out of my car Sunday night
:(
Edit: Argghgh!!! This is annoying. I can get my film back that I dropped off last night. Will have to show them what the website says to try and get this album thing done!

Well I finally figured out how to get the online album done (had to bring in a printout from the website) but it was going to cost me $5 extra per roll plus the photos don't stay up there forever so I'd have to put them up on my own site eventually. So I ended up going to Zehr's and getting CD's done for a few bucks extra. And they even had a special promotion for free doubles on a 24 roll. So that's a good deal. I should have them tonight if the weather isn't too bad to be driving around (snowstorm!)
Suzanne - I think I'm going to use the photo album script you've got on your site so I might need some help!

Hey, thanks for the link! I had that one bookmarked awhile ago and was intending to use it if and when I ever got around to putting photos up. I have it all ready to go so hopefully everything will go smoothly when I try to install it tonight.
Photos look good overall. I had a problem with my camera where the shutter wasn't closing properly (had to poke it open with my finger first). Unfortunately I didn't figure that out until the second or third roll so a lot of pictures have black marks in the corner
I might be able to remove it from some.

Well, I have it installed, and running, but I can't get it to add my photos because it needs a third party program to do the thumbnails. So I have to install this imagemagik thing too. Hopefully that won't take too long...
Photos are uploaded, you can see them here:
http://www.meganjack.com/photos/albums/ (photos are in the folders with the underscores first). Hopfeully I'll have the gallery up with some captions tonight or tomorrow
The best beach photos aren't uploaded yet, and the _rainforest folder is empty still. A lot of them need editing and rotating and such.

Am I the only idiot who can never get scripts to work? I've made such a mess of this, now I can't even get my album to come up. This is so frustrating!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and embarrassing, since I should be able to do do this).
Anyone know of a gallery script that is so simple even I could install it?? I'm in a real mess now because my FTP client won't even let me delete everything and start over

Yea, me and zollet did this together...(involves uploading, but you can take that out if you want)
<?php//Upload script $uploaddir = ".../img/pics/\"; // Path to full image folder
if (move_uploaded_file($_FILES[\"userfile\"][\"tmp_name\"], $uploaddir . $_FILES[\"userfile\"][\"name\"]))
{
// Move the original uploaded file to the pics directory
$picture = $uploaddir . $_FILES[\"userfile\"][\"name\"]; // /...l/img/pics/pic.jpg
$picture_name = $_FILES[\"userfile\"][\"name\"]; // pic.jpg
// Set a few variables
$size = getimagesize(\"$picture\");
$width = $size[0];
$height = $size[1]; // Find out the height and width attriutes of image
$newHeight = 100;
$newWidth = 100; // Set the new height and width of thumbnail
$oldimage = ImageCreateFromJPEG(\"$picture\");
$newimage = ImageCreateTrueColor($newWidth,$newHeight);
imagecopyresampled($newimage,$oldimage,0,0,0,0,$newWidth,$newHeight,$width,$height);
$picture_thumb = '.../img/thumbs/' . $picture_name;
ImageJPEG($newimage, $picture_thumb);
// Thumbnail picture is created in /upload/ dir
//copy($picture_name, \".../img/thumbs/$picture_name\");
// So move it to /thumbnail/ dir
//unlink(\".../upload/$picture_name\");
// Delete the useless thumbnail in /upload/ dir
header(\"Location: http://www....com/upload\");
echo \"Done upload.\";
}
else {
echo \"Image upload failed!\";
}
?>
<?php//Viewing script $SCRIPT_NAME=$SERVER_VARS['PHP_SELF']; $pic=$HTTP_GET_VARS['pic']; // the directory name $handle=opendir('.../img/thumbs/'); // initialize variables $pics=array(); $count=0; // read directory into pics array while (($file = readdir($handle))!==false) {
// filter for jpg, gif or png files...
if (substr($file,-4) == ".jpg\" || substr($file,-4) == \".gif\" || substr($file,-4) == \".png\" || substr($file,-4) == \".JPG\" || substr($file,-4) == \".GIF\" || substr($file,-4) == \".PNG\"){$pics[$count] = $file;
$count++;
// don't forget to close the filter conditions here!
}
}
closedir($handle);
// done reading, sort the filenames alphabetically, comment these lines if you want no sorting
sort($pics);
reset($pics);
// loop over images
for ($f=0;$f<=sizeof($pics)-1;$f++){
echo \"<a href=\\"

Mental note: next time, drink wine *before* attempting to install scripts
Thanks for the help, guys, but I have this thing in working order. It still won't let me point to a directory and upload files automatically, but I can do them manually a few a time. So I've got a start on it now, anyway. Tomorrow or Sunday I'll have some links for you
Sorry for all the delays. I'm not too bright with this script stuff, as you can tell.
