Microsoft ran out of the running for having the best software years ago, they try to catch up, and people laugh in their faces.. and boy, they're good at sucking.. I think XP Pro is the best microsoft OS out there for features and security. Just there's nothing like Linux..
Microsoft still has the buisness standerd... Microsoft Office.
Other than that... There is nothing the microsoft can be proud of. Adobe now has all the web development software and professional media development.
My proublem is not the software or security. Its lack of usefull tools. It just doesnt move fast enough for me...
Not that any other OS is any better... but I was kinda hopeing vista would be better.

When I read about vista on the mircosoft I was ready to buy it, but then all the reviews it was getting wasn't worth buying a new OS and then trying to figure out how everything runs. My goal is to still go to a linux OS which I still have not done..

Yeah, they suck so bad that they're still the accepted industry standard, Apple has captured the music market sure, but they haven't come close when it comes to OSes, and Open Source operating systems are still too esoteric and unstandardized, give me a linux that installs seamlessly on the first try, detacts all my hardware, and lets me install files with just a double click, and then tell me MS and Windows suck.
No, Vista is not going to be an improvement, and I am not going to get it for as long as I can avoid it. I don't think I had XP until 2 years after it was released. Vista will only become an improvement when Windows finally gets their SQL based file system going. "SELECT * FROM `my_documents` WHERE `extension` = 'jpg'; that would be awesome.
I installed Ubuntu, and it installed like a dream... on my 3rd try, and it still didn't detect my sound card.
The article (so far as I have skimmed it) goes more towards saying Windows is better at the general end user experience. It does state that for people who know what they are doing can get what they want done better on Linux, I have nothing against MS and Windows, they've done an amazing job at making something that will work for everyone on basically any computer. I do get annoyed with the bubblegumification of newer Windows, but they are kind enough to give you the option to switch to the more stripped down GUI.
Friend of mine says that Vista is going to be the ME of XP, and I tend to agree, it will be bug filled and not worth switching to, more developed to cause people to reupgrade out of frustration than anything else.

I suggest that you read the article more carefully NOT skim through it.

Well I finally got SuSE 10.0 working with xfce as the window manager and am truly amazed, this OS is way, way ahead of Windows.
What an amzing array of choice too, and that's probably why people get confused, there are always about ten different ways to do any one thing.
It's little things too: This thing can handle SVG icons, all the text (including web pages) is anti-aliased, I actually feel free to do what I want. No "You must sign your soul and enter an annoying code (often repeatedly) before using this software." It's not just the fact that the software is free. I know that this was created with me in mind.
You complain about an install not working seamlessly out of the box?! Well Linux isn't for you, anyone using it - that isn't running a server - is an early adopter. As such users need to be prepared to deal with manufacturers not bothering to make drivers, I can guarantee MS pay some of them so they don't. If required I'll find you evidence of MS trying to stifle Linux development.
"Some software money can't buy, for everything else there's Microsoft."
So carry on using your commercial rubbish, I'm going to use software that was written with people like me - not profit - in mind.

Linux distro?? I think I have heard of it but I'm not sure exactly what SuSE is.
It looks like something I might be intrested in.
I have not switched to any other OS for one main reason...
I need to create things... 3D desing, Flash, ASP.NET and Images. The proublem is, the best software isnt avalible on diffrent OSs. If I can get Adobe CS on a OS that makes me happy... I'll be glad to be running a diffrent OS.
I know there alturnatives but I need to be useing the main stream ones. I'm working consulting jobs right now and I need to keep up to date on how to use the newset software.
The best ideaI think is to keep everything as is ans start writing software to help me work faster... The proublem is though... That kind of software needs to integrate into the windows OS. Which is something I have no Idea to do at this point.
So I would be better to STFU untill I have the time to write all this crap.

Very accurate though.
Vista is about as cutting edge as my left shoe.
And has about as many new features.
Its just an expensive SP2.
I'm in the process of upgradeing to XP Pro 64 bit edition. That is a good investment.

Linux equivilents of Adobe CS suite:
Adobe Photoshop - http://www.gimp.org
Adobe Illustrator - http://www.inkscape.org
Adobe GoLive - http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/
3D Software - http://blender.org/cms/Home.2.0.html (this is fantastic!)
The only things you can't get on Linux are Flash (unless you hand program it using Ming) or ASP.NET (by PHP is so much better anyway

You could always move to an Apple Mac instead
You get all the advantages of the best Operating System on earth and no viruses, trojans, spyware etc. And Adobe supports Mac OS X
Or you could stay as you are
