So what do you think, is google going too far? Are they getting into too many different projects?
I generally like google. They've got something good in their philosophy statement about how you don't have to be evil to do business. I like that. The copyright stuff is a little concerning though.

I've been receving the WebPro News pretty much daily, and it seems everyday Google is starting a new project. I also like Google, (although my home page is Yahoo - my parent's choice *rolls eyes*) but I feel they need to take on one thing at a time, or they are going to get in too deep and end up going crazy. My site is nowhere near Google, but even I just tackle one project a time. Once I finish one, I move onto the next, not all at once, or I'll just get confused and tired.

Its scary how fast they are growing but its nice to know there is a major company out there that isnt stabbing backs (like microsoft). I just dont see a mojor company called "google", sounds like a childs toy.

well, google tells its people tp spend 70% of their time on the search engine and the other 30% on their "special project".
You see google's sated goal is to organise the world's information.
the 30% of their time is devoted to orgainising the world's information in other ways apart from the money making search engine. I.e google earth - orgainising the world's satelight photos in an easy to use manner, picture search, organising the web's pictures. Best of all these odd projects are usually free to use!

Here is a idea, they could charge $10 for a listing in their search engine. They could make some serious cash from people listing their sites.

It's possible they're overstepping their portfolio in some ways. I don't see how Google Talk, for instance, is related to information retrieval. I still think in terms of retrieval rather than organisation - regardless what their official line is - since "organisation" is far too ambiguous and wide-reaching for me.
