Hi, i am a chinese , when i was studying in New Zealand, i was wondering to see people buying second hand clothes from the clothing shop. I would like to know your guys buy second hand clothes too ?
Most chinese don't like to buy second clothes because of believing an old clothes will not bring luck, especially you don't know who wear it before....

You watching me or something lol I just brought some more jeans on ebay.
In New Zealand we have a lot of op shops but also warehouses that sell second hand clothing although a lot of it is just seconds (has marks, hole, wonky seam etc so cant sell). None of the op shops sell rags, although some trends require that patched look, or even brand new you can buy jeans with patches and/or holes in them.
Each to there own, always wash them first (they have to be clean to sell anyway). I buy second hand on ebay (and new) for the price, a pair of levis here is $120 - $150 NZD, on ebay to buy, ship and convert they can cost as little as $30 NZD.
Look at it this way, you buy second hand knowing it has been worn, some clothes like jeans and leather stuff need to be worn in before are comfortable, in a shop you buy brand new but you don't know who has tried that item on, if they had a wash this week, if they have germs ... Some people dont wash new clothes before they wear them because they are new, but how many people tried them on? In shops they do take them out of wrapping for you to try on and replace back in wrappers as if untouched.
I brought a second hand ski jacket once, only needed it for few weeks so no point in buying new, that turned out to be good luck because i found $20 in the inside pocket

I used to ocassionally when I was a student and didn't have a lot of money. I don't really like the feeling of not knowing who has worn my clothes before! It makes me a little uncomfortable. I do have a few things my sister gave me when she got bored of them but I wouldn't really count that.
The only time when I would actually buy used clothes now would be good vintage stuff. You know, stuff that's old enough that it's stylish again. The problem there is that it's hard to find anything that's still nice and fits properly.
That is interesting that the Chinese consider used clothing to be unlucky!

I used to buy church pants at Value Village which was a second hand store. I hated spending $50 for pants I only wear once a week. Then I grow about a million inches and I can't find any that fit there anymore. So, now I don't buy clothes second hand.

Thats weird, females tend to swap clothes, so really you don't know who's worn it but will take hand me downs but not buy second hand.

Well I am way on the other side of this! For many many years 70's-early 90's I rarely bought any new clothes, all were second hand or vintage, always in good shape and great prices for high end labels. (Of course I washed them first!)
Where I live now the options for second hand is more like for rags, and I very rarely do it except for work-in-the-garden/yard type thing, a t shirt or sweatshirt that I am just gonna trash in a couple of weeks any way.
I guess I was brought upwearing my sisters and older cousins hand me downs, and never thought bad of it.

I buy used clothes all the time. I actually did a website (nstylefx.com) for a resale shop that only resells brand name clothing. I've since bought several pieces of clothing there. And I'd done the same thing before at other resale shops, but it's much nicer to go to one that only has brand name stuff.

The only clothes I buy second hand are underwear. You can get some good deals on it. The stains can be a problem but no one ever sees those unless you have a car wreck or something.

Yep....for myself I do. I'm a jeans - t-shirt-sweatshirt girll, and I'd rather buy cheap clothes so I can have expensive high tech toys like camera leneses and photo studio equipment.

I don't buy used clothes, and I never will. My Wife is a Great bargain Shopper at GoodWill. So she does the shopping for me...

ewww 2nd hand underwear lol.
Are you lot being serious? I'm a broke student and I avoid all the expensive brand name clothes like the plague due to my wallet being empty. I still wear fresh new low cost clothes though and take care of them so I don't need to buy new ones every month.
The only thing I buy out of 2nd hand shops are books or novels.
