How much time do you lot spend at your computer (this includes Playstations and playing mobile phone games etc) a day?
How much time watching TV a day?
I recon I rack up 4 hours computer time and a further 5 hours in the glow of the TV.
I don't think I could survive without my PC. The only time I don't feel the twinge to log on is when I'm with friends, but when boredom is anywhere near me the PC is my ally...

Well, since I am a programmer for a living, and run computer for presentations during church services 3 times a week, I'd say I'm on the computer about 40-50 hours a week.
TV, I only watch maybe 3-4 hours of "pure" tv watching a week (3 episodes of Big Brother and a couple of King of Queens). I say pure tv watching, because when at home on the computer, I have the tv on in the background to distract my brain some. My mind thinks too much and I need something in the background to distract my brain. But it has to be something I have seen and know already. Yes I'm weird.
I'm sure this will change once I'm married. We just picked up our marriage license today!!!!

Just worked out I spend about 74 hours a week in front of the computer  Although that does depend a lot on how much work there is to do, and what social stuff I have planned for each weekend.
Congrats Greg!!
As for TV, probably about an hour to 2 hours. Am not a great fan of TV but listen to quite a lot of radio.
Don't worry Greg you're not alone with that distraction thing, I also listen to loads of music/radio for the same purpose.

Congrats Greg!
When Im off from work I say I spend about 5 hours a day in a computer, and about 3 hours of TV... I spend more time outdoors...
But if I get a flu or something, or plan a week off, I could work 12hour straight on a computer every day...

I'm on for about 7 hours/day at work unless I have a meeting, then maybe 1-2 at home depending on what I have to do. Lately I've been applying to jobs which takes up a lot of time, and doing some admin work here. On the weekends it varies - I'd say about 5hrs/day average. I have to be careful because if I'm on too much I get sore wrists.
I'm not a huge fan of TV either. I mostly just use it to keep me company while I'm eating dinner, or to relax before bed. I've been watching a lot of reruns of shows I never watched the first time (Seinfeld, Everybody loves Raymond... I'm getting really sick of Friends). I've been renting Sex and the City on DVD - as relaxing as a movie, but only 1/2 an hour long
I'll have to catch up on some others I never watched the first time. Oh, and I also watch The Daily Show.

So with all this computing time do any of you experiance any "side effects"?
i.e. Bloodshot eyes, repetitive strain injury, putting your dinner in the oven switching on the PC and then burning your dinner by mistake?

I have this thing with my eyes delayed in adjusting at night, especially when im driving at night when I see headlights of other cars, I poorly see in about 3 seconds...
One funny thing however is that I turned on my computer , got a phone call and answered it, went back to the computer and turned it off, then I wondered what I was supposed to do before I got the call... Then I remembered I need to use the computer...

I'm also a programmer for a living, plus I co-own a web design business. Combine that with my computer hobbies (retrogaming, etc.), and I probably spend around 65 hours a week on the computer. That can vary greatly day to day, though.
TV, not nearly as much. Tivo has helped greatly with spending less time in front of the television, plus I still get to watch more TV in the time spent. But I would say maybe 5 hours a week on average.
Oh, and congrats, Greg! I've been married almost 8 years now, and it's great. Often hard work, but most things worth doing are.

Just read the other message... I've only experienced really dry eyes once, when I was working on a project for my web design business, and I spent about 18 or so hours straight in front of the computer. I think I did take a lunch and dinner break, but I couldn't say for sure.
At the end of that day, my eyes were extremely irritated. It was weird, as I've never experienced that before, at least not because of computing.

I don't know about this one - but can watching a non-LCD screen give you eye-cancer as the radiation is being shot at your face?
Or is it a myth?

Everything gives off radiation, whether it gives off a lot or a little is different. I really don't think looking at a CRT will give you eye cancer.

The pain we get in the eyes when looking at monitors is actually an oversensory reaction, since we not only see color in solid form, rather we see it in light form which has a higher frequency and wavelength, therefore too much exposure to this makes you prone to oversensory reaction... Anyways its the same as RSI, locked up in bad posture at a long period of time is harmful to the body... Thats why my PC is next to a window next to the garden so I can see some birds and bees flying by to refresh my eyes...
