I saw this on the news tonight! What a disaster! Hopefully everyone is alright. The onle thing thats driving me crazy right now about this is how every news agency and police department is immediatly talking "Possibility of Terrorism". I really wish they would re think thier tactics and stop creating a sense of panic about this. They should be focusing more on how this bridge managed to fall and where are its inspection records?

Yeah, news agencies really like their FUD!
The Toronto Star (my regular paper) is reporting 4 fatalities now, and 30 missing: http://www.thestar.com/News/article/242437
That's a scary thing to happen - could happen anywhere really...
By the way, while we're on the topic of news, how are things going in the UK? There has been very little coverage of the flooding over here, but I've heard a bit about it from different sources.

Last night the mayor said 6 fatalities...so who knows! I just cannot believe it. Hubs was on the bridge 3 hours earlier. He drives it at least 1 x/week.

I just cannot imagine the horror. And having someone missing and not accounted for either way must be a person's worst nightmare.
Lets hope they find out what happened so something like this does not happen again.

I don't know a lot of details at this point (does anyone?) but I did hear that they had been performing construction recently (only cosmetic). Possibly they messed up something structural in the process...

They still do not know what caused it - they will not for a while. They were working on the bridge - but minor maintenance.
This am I heard that 4 people died and there were 20 missiing. That's the worst. And the river is too fast for the divers to go in. They think that a lot of debris, cars etc would all be downstream because of the current. So time will tell.
