Someone on another thread suggested a brain teaser.
Here's a cute one.
You are in a city wherein everyone who lives in the eastern half always lies and everyone in the west always tells the truth (I am a child of the cold war. That's why this particlular east/west setup makes sense to me.)
During the day, people from each side are allowed to cross over the to the other side. They are indisinguishible.
You are in the town. Your task is to find out which side you are on. You have no compass or any natural way to know this. You may ask one person one question and from the answer you are to know which side you are on.

In all honesty, knowing that about the land, I wouldn't waste time asking people questions.
1) Look for the sun, and figure it out from there. (provided you know the time)
[North is to the left of sunrise and right of sunset]
2) Look for moss, and knowing which hemisphere your on, you can tell north from south. (not very reliable)
So basically, in that situation I'd rely on science. Did I weasle my way out of an answer?

Sorry. You are not allowed to use those methods.
You must ask someone one question and know which side you are on from his answer.

ok ok ok...
Ask the one person what someone from the other side of town would say.
The honest person would say what a lier would say. (the wrong way)
The lier would lie about what the honest person would say. (the wrong way)
So, go the opposite way that the person says.

I'm going to try to keep a good teaser in this thread for people to play with (at least for a while).
What kind of teasers do you like?
Personally, I like math/science/etc, but I can find nearly anything.

[quick fix for merlin ;)]
here is a classic: Three Men and a Hotel
Three men decided to split the cost of a hotel room. The hotel manager gave them a price of $30. The men split the bill evenly, each paying $10, and retired to their room.
However, the manager realized that it was a Wednesday night, which meant the hotel had a special: rooms were only $25. He had overcharged them $5!
He promptly called the bellboy, gave him five one-dollar bills and told him to return it to the men. When the bellboy explained the situation to the men, they were so pleased at the honesty of the establishment that they promptly tipped the bellboy $2 of the $5 he had returned and each kept $1 for himself.
The Problem: Each of the three men ended up paying $9 (their original $10, minus $1 back) totalling $27, plus $2 for the bellboy makes $29. Where did the extra dollar go?

I got it.
Total cost is $27 ($9 each).
That cost consists of $25 for the room and $2 tip for the bell boy. The rest was their $1 back. Am I right?
Personally, I still think the best tip is 'don't eat yellow snow'. But then, I'm British, and we never tip!

Yeah Jo is right
. The $27 already includes the $2 tip so you wouldn't add it again.

Anyone like those 'finish the patter' stuff? Here is a taste...
There is a pattern below:
A EF HI KLMN------------------
BCD G J OP
'
There is a reason why some letters are above the line and some are below the line. Figure out the pattern and complete the alphabet.

Mark's answer was right.
But I made a mistake in the riddle.
The question that you ask must be no more than 4 words long and it must relate to the person you are addressing, not to somebody else. So now that I've moved the goalposts, anybody want to try? I promise not to move the goalposts any more.

I'm sorry, the last teaser I posted I got off the web. After playing with it for a while, I check my answer with the one on the web. This has nothing to do with 'patterns' really. And the answer can varry based on the fonts used. That said, here is the answer:
A EF HI KLMN T VWXYZ-----------------------------
BCD G J OPQRS U
'
The letters on top are made of straight lines only.
akohl- Let me think about that.... only 4 words?!?

akohl- You've got me now. If no one else wants to try, post the answer (or PM it to me).
merlin- I'm guessing he fell asleep with a cigarette or something along those lines.

I read this story. To put out the forest fire they had helicopters fly in with water from the ocean and when they were getting the water they picked up a diver too. It was somewhere in California.

You are given 8 coins. One is a counterfeit. They are indisinguishible by sight. You are given a scale and allowed to use it only twice. Find the counterfeit.
