The United States refuses to relinquish its role as the Internet's principal traffic policeman, rejecting calls in a United Nations meeting for a U.N. body to take over...

Insteresting article, makes me wonder if one day there will be blocking of traffice like what happened last week between two major backbone providers...

I've been reading the headlines on this topic but haven't paid much attention. I sort of treat it like all the bird flu scares (um, yeah, okay, whatever, let me know when it's actually serious Roll eyes ).

From what I read the internet could be split into two jurisdictions with two separate and incompatible backbones. I don't believe that this will actually happen but who knows really.

That's an interesting one Greg, hadn't heard about this before. To my mind it's slightly dangerous to let just one country have ultimate control of the Internet. Especially when its an insular threocracy like America.

It would be better under UN hands, the only problem we then face is actually getting anything done. All those countries with right of veto can create a vast amount of bureaucracy, and of course everyone has their own agenda!
