Everyone in my office is being allowed to get a computer certification of choice. Many people have chosen MCSE or MCP, but I would like to get webmaster certification, that being my job and all.
Has anyone heard of a reputible certification for us web developers? I'm not looking for Billy and Paul's Certificating College or something...

I looked into this for a while but in the end it seemed that the best sort of certification is exeprience and previous work. well in the webmasters role anyhow.
Sorry this dosen't help you but I would be interested in knowing if there is anyhitng.
The only other thing I can think of of training in particular products.

Gil,
You what?! You do realise that an MCSE is almost like degree status in the IT industry!
Its about 4000 Pounds to do over here!
Webmaster Certification can be done at your local college for a fiver! Seriously I know that you want to do courses in Webdesign but web design is currently being learnt by half of the Indian Community. Thats a heck of a lot of webmasters/designer out there that will work for pennies.
However if that's what you want to do then the best bet is to check the courses at your local college.

Gil,
I want to come work for your company. Where can I send my resume? I'm still trying to figure out how to get my employer to let me take A+ certification at their expense. Heck, it's only $256USD.
I agree with Vy22 though, get the MCSE.

Thanks for the advice guys. I looked into a few certifications like ciw (ciw.com I think). I've never heard of any of them so it makes me wonder...
I am still planning to take MCSE no matter what, as I can basically get any certification I want. But I work for a small business, so I don't want to waste their money on some bogus unrecognized merit.
I am NOT looking for training or classes or anything. I could be teaching them. I have experience and a great portfolio, I'm just lacking education.

I've been looking into the same thing for quite some time and although there are a lot of shady deals out there, the only decent program I've come across is the one available through CIW (http://www.ciwcertified.com). The courses seem to be extremely comprehensive -- even for those with more real-world experience -- it's recognized as the standard of education by the International Webmasters Association, and my alma mater here in Texas offers the classes on a very regular basis. The program itself is rather pricey for me right now (US$5,000 approx.), but an MSCE is almost twice that price. MOreover, I've done some talking with other corporate webmaster friends and they have confirmed for me that this certification is quickly gaining recognition as a notable thing to have -- not as recognizable as an MSCE, of course, but I think that will come as more people participate in the programs.
Still, if you can get a continuing ed loan it might be worth it for you and you would have something that's gaining recognition in the industry for what you actually do.
Just my thoughts.
It's all in the delivery...

Gil,
Webmaster certification is useless, especially for someome such as yourself who already has incredible knowledge of all things web design. You're also quite the Perl monk, if memory serves =) It's not worth taking a course just for the certification
If you really don't want to waste the money of the small business which you work for, then don't bother with web design certifications - the MCSE/MCSD may be somewhat useful (if you want to work with Microsoft products, that is) but anything webmaster related is useless, and would not be good use of your business's money. Even so, developing in ASP and msSQL is not something that seems useful, or enjoyable.
