We live in a small town now and really enjoy it. We are within walking distance of everything we need - grocery store, pharmacy, a small farmer's market on saturdays, and our favourite restaurant. We're also near the country, which is great for long bike rides. At home, it's very quiet outside (unless someone's mowing the lawn!)

It is a bit of a drive to get in to the bigger city for work but overall it's worth it.

I am live in a small village. I like this village life. Most of the people in my village are my relatives and friends. They are knowing and helping each other. In my opinion, village life encourages a greater sense of community and perspective on what is important.

Village or small town hands down. I have access to the more populated areas up north & west, but also open spaces a few miles south.

I was born in NYC and when I was 10 moved to Wilkes-Barre PA, a small city.

I definitely had a case of culture shock, I built forts in my back yard, we were flooded out of the house in 1972. I attended a good private school, and my NYC accelerated education gained me the privilege of skipping a grade (good intellectually and terrible socially).

So I lived in Rome (Italy) for a year, that was awesome, I was interested in archeology, I used to walk through ruins to an American school (St. Stephens School) memorizing the Iliad in Greek. I lived about two blocks from the Coliseum.

Then my family moved to Apple Tree Road in Harding PA (named after the President, who presided over the Tea Pot Dome scandal). It was fully rural. Meanwhile I was in school in Northfield MA, also a rural setting.

I took long walks in the woods, grew marajiuana in the abandoned Christmas tree farm, I am surprised I survived driving those mountain roads as a drunk teenager.

I went to college in Providence RI (city) and my family moved back to NYC. It was a nice town, good music clubs, the Brown campus is a self-contained community, more than Columbia for example, I biked around a lot and went to the beach - one named Moonstone was a nude beach.

After college I lived in Amsterdam Valley (106th Street NYC). In 1980 when I moved in, there was a drug/gang murder on my block about twice a month. I lived in an old tenement building, built in the very early 1900s - the building adjacent was abandoned and I was burglarized 2 or 3 times. I was 4 blocks from Central Park and I commuted by bicycle to 44th Street.

Since 2000 I have lived in Hudson County NJ, right across the river from NYC - in Jersey City, Bayonne, and North Bergen. The rents are cheaper, the pace of live is slower, the government is more corrupt.

Where I live now is small town-ish, kind of like a Central or South American town (I think more than 50% of the residents are Latino). I like the neighborhood, convenient shopping.

I can get to Times Square in NYC in 25 minutes by bus.

So I have the best of both - a safe quiet neighborhood and access to all of NYC...

Find myself a city to live in...

Small town does give us the best of both worlds. The only thing I miss about being in a city is that there's always some shops open. In the small town we live in now, almost everything shuts at 5pm! Smiling

Nowadays people are moving from the peaceful hills, mountains, river and streams of the countryside to the busy world of traffic, streets and crowds. You will get more possibilities living in a city instead of village.

I live in(near a small town) on a farm. We're basically in the middle of nowhere but I like it. You have to drive a ways to get to a store but its nice to go biking or hiking in your own backyard. Though recently a lot of people have been moving in and I don't like that at all, it ruins our view of the mountains! Country is the best to me Smiling

In my opinion, city life and village life has advantages and disadvantages. In city life, we get facilities for education, hospital, transportation etc. But in village, small chances of these facilities. Also in city life,we have to suffer electricity problem, water problem and pollution problem. But in village, we have to breathe good air and get clean water.

Yeah, it is a little bit disturbing living in a city, but you know "A good beginning makes a good ending" - in a city there are many interesting jobs - "Work on what you like and you will never have to work anymore"

As for me it is better to live in a big city instead of living in a small town. You will have much more possibilities living in a city.

Wow, everyone around here thinks I'm weird for doing that. Especially when it's snowing!

Is your new government planning to bring in an immigration policy for us grass-skirt wearing, tourist-eaters?
