Do you do "social"?
Do you have an account on myspace, facebook, linkedin, twitter or any social media site? Do you use your account for anything?
I signed up for twitter a week ago because I was getting some referers from there. But I haven't really done anything with it since then. I can't quite figure out why people would use twitter. I read through some messages and I think my IQ dropped a few points. I never signed up for myspace or facebook or linkedin. Are you guys big time user of social media?

I have a LinkedIn account (would you ever guess
) and I find it very useful for networking and connecting to new clients and colleagues, as well as reading the zeitgeist of the tech industry through Group and Question postings.
I also have a Plaxo account, a Naymz account, a Doostang account, a STA.RTUP.BIZ account, probably a few more that I am not that active with. I have been involved in a Ning startup, the IT Contracting Network, which currently has about 500 members, but it's not very active.
I do not use Twitter or Facebook.
Twitter has become a phenomenon and since it has acquired a huge user base, it has attracted the attention of marketers.
This article at PCWorld was very helpful in understanding Twitter's potential
There have even been reports that Twitter is used by terrorists...
I suppose that having my own personal site, a full Drupal installation with a blog and RSS feeds and more, obviates the necessity of joining a community like Facebook just to have a web URL of my own...

I use Facebook simply for connecting with friends and family, especially with friends that live far away and I don't get to see often (if ever). I've never fallen for the other "social" sites out there.

I have a Facebook account to keep up with friends & family, but I'm hardly on. I sign in probably once a week to hit 'ignore' on all the 'super pokes', and other application invitations that want all my personal information.

I have Facebook, Bebo, My Year Book, Myspace, Stumble Upon, Twitter, Furl, LinkIn, Ecademy, Sta.rtup.biz and Digg accounts.
And then I am registered on 20+ webmaster forums here and there. LOL.
I tend to use these networks and bookmarking tools for connecting to people and making business and personal connections.
This is the best way for them. I also use such accounts for family and friends contact.

Hahaha, yes, I used to really hate those kinds of things. Everytime someone on my address book would sign up to something like that, I'd get an email about it.
Sadly, I gave in to it just to see if I can give a justified opinion on them before hating them exclusively.
At the moment, I have a Friendster, Myspace, Bebo, Facebook and Twitter account. Of which, I only use Facebook and Twitter regularly.
These sites, I find, are good for several reasons. As stated above, one of them is keeping in touch with friends - which they are design to do, to some extent. Having friends all around the world, it has definitely helped.
Of course, the disadvantage to this is that, I don't know for sure where all the information about my friends and I are being stored and who it is being shared with. Advertisers most likely.
In the end, I do still dislike them but sadly, I am willing to give away parts of my personal details to keep in touch with local and long distance friends.

I use Facebook for reasons mentioned above. It's a nice way to keep in touch with friends & family I don't see very often.
I have a LinkedIn account but almost never use it ... unless I get a contact from someone and decide to go in and update a few things.
Twitter I've never really understood but it's really really popular among web designers & marketing people so sometimes I think I should try it. I can't imagine interrupting what I'm doing to post on there. I have enough distractions as it is!
