I have been away from the forums for some time and i would just like to say hello to everyone again and to let you all know that i shall be more active here.

I have other websites, forums and a website hosting company to run at present and i intend to keep it that way.

I am on so many forums that it is hard to keep track of them all but this site is a nice community and Megan and Liam are good people.

I hope that all is well with you guys Smiling

Regards and best wishes,
Michael Swan (ms2134)

PS> Thoughts on my new company banner that i just had designed.

Affordable Hosting Solutions

Might be better viewed on the site: http://www.cis-webhosting.com/

Because the above area is a little too small for it to fit.

Thanks, it is good to be back.
Company advertising and competition research are my main tasks on the agenda.

How is everyone, and thoughts on the banner?

The banner is quite smart. Neat and tidy and eye catching

Although I hate the use of the word "solutions" in an attempt to summarise a business's services.

What do you solve exactly?

"Professional Linux Hosting"
"Professional Linux Hosting Packages"
"Professional Linux Hosting Plans"
"Affordable and Professional Linux Hosting"

I also hate the use of the word "free" for something I only get when I pay for something else. It's not free, I have to part with cash to obtain it, therefore "Included in the price" is actually what it is.

Also (while I'm on a rant Laugh) what if I don't want a domain name? I presume the cost to you for the "free" domain name has been calculated in with the price, so you don't lose out.
Therefore I would suspect and surmise I could get a cheaper deal elsewhere without the "free" domain name.

Although I know most people don't really think about things like that.

Welcome back to TWF too Smiling

Greg,

Wink. We solve hosting by making it more affordable but at the same time we do not comprimise our reliability and stability unlike many other companies.

As with the domain name question. If you don't want it, you still have a domain transfer or if not you can use the contact form and we can take that off so its a little cheaper.

And people are supposed to know that by the word "solutions" ?
Again, it's an attempt to summarise a business's services in one word, and it fails.

So it's "expensive hosting" that you solve then, but not "hosting" on its own.

How can you solve hosting? Hosting is a noun that describes a type of service/system/group of services. So you can only solve an issue present within that service.

If I said to you "Bird Solutions" OR "Car Solutions" Or "Tree Solutions", would that mean anything to you?
You cannot solve a bird, a car or a tree.

Thus we need to be told of the problem "hosting" has to allow your "solutions" to define what particular problem within hosting your are to solve.

"Solutions for expensive hosting"
"Solutions for slow hosting"
"Solutions for hosting with too much downtime"
etc

In fact, the entire sentence you have is "Professional Linux Hosting Solutions"
what does that even mean?
Does that mean the solutions for hosting are done by a professional Linux?
Or is a professional linux hosting some solutions?

I know, pedantic. But slogans are getting copied all the time without any thought to what they mean.
"Systems" is another corporate word used badly.

"Professional web development systems" for someone who develops and makes websites. What systems?
How about - "Professional linux hosting systems solutions"

I'm not trying to be annoying, it is one of my pet hates as it means nothing. It gives the reader no idea of what you do as it's a generic word that could be anything. And with its over usage by every man and his colour blind dog, I think people are getting wise to it and not seeing it as "wow that sound impressive".

"hosting solutions" means nothing to me, at the least it means you are solving hosting, which again is meaningless.
There are much better words you could use and come up with a fresh phrase that isn't stale and used by millions of other people.

Again, this is not a get-at, just my opinion and advice.

Hello Michael, I'm a new member at The Webmaster Forums but I thought I'd say hello and respond to your banner, since you are looking for feedback.

Visually, it is strong. But for me, the "AME" in (DOMAIN) "NAME" is cut off, not sure why that is but it detracts from the banner. Perhaps you might think of making the servers smaller so they take up less horizontal space and so that the text has more room and isn't as crowded?

I think that some good critiques were brought up about the wording, but of course you have to balance that with your limited space. Good luck with it.
