Okay ... I am a new member in Webmaster Forums and I'm a little confused. I believe there are many rules here that I should have known before I do anything bad for my rep.

Anyway, my name is Al, I own http://www.toeng.com and I have been a webmaster for pretty much 5 years. I live in Ohio, USA and I am going to college. Laughing out loud

Welcome to Webmaster-Forums. We really don't have many rules here. We ask mainly that you show respect for your fellow members. We usually also like to have you review 3 websites before you ask for a critique of your site. But even that rule is not a requirement mostly just a request. The only other thing that we try to avoid are are reviews of adult sites and warez-type sites. Quite possibly the only thing that you might do that is bad for your rep is hang out with us.

Other than those things, we try to run a pretty friendly open forum at least until you put your site up for review (LOL).

We are working on getting a set of site rules posted here to avoid any kind of confusion.

Toeng.com if that is indeed your real name! =) I have seen your site before. Random chance maybe? I dig it.

I wish I had half the database skill that site is showing off. Nice little installation you have there.

The minimum post count is currently 25, then do the following :

Control Panel > Edit Options
Scroll to the bottom, click the 'Change Avatar' button
Select the radio button next to 'Yes'
Click the 'Browse' button, and find the avatar on your machine
Click 'Submit Modifications'

There have been about 4 different posts asking that question lately! We should really have some sort of FAQ or notice somewhere about that.

You have to get 25 posts first, then the option will show up at the bottom of your edit profile screen.

A couple of things you can avoid doing so you don't get a "bad rap":

  • Don't get into the habit of posting a lot of useless junk - it's kind of annoying to open a thread, wait for it to load scroll down to the latest post only to see "Yeah, I agree" or something like that. It's okay to do things like this once in awhile, particularly in general chat, but if it gets out of hand it can really be annoying. People who always seem to be posting for the sole reason of increasing their post count are always annoying.
  • Be specific with your subject lines - as the forums continue to become more and more active it will make things a lot easier for everyone if you clearly state what your post is about in the subject line. At busy forums I always tend to skip threads with titles like "question..." or "I need help with this". It's also annoying when you open a thread only to find out that the subject lines have nothing to do with the actual message content.
  • If you have something to say to one particular individual that would not be of interest to the rest of us, use the PM feature or take it to private e-mail.
  • Don't spam the boards!
  • Try your best to post new threads in the appropriate forums - saves us the trouble of having to move them
  • General Forum etiquette - don't use foul language, avoid posting things that may be offensive to others, show respect for other peoples' opinions - don't insult people, avoid flame wars etc. etc.

Well, I hope this helps a little bit - welcome to the forums and I hope you enjoy it here.

Wow, that's clear as glass, Megan. I am glad somebody bring that up. I think we all need for *informative posting*, not just some *yes* or *no* posting.

Anyway, does any of you know a magazine named Computer Arts? The magazine is so cool! just visit their website if you want to know more;
http://www.computerarts.co.uk

Thanks.

Ah, stuff like that is fine in this forum - we're just getting to know each other in here so pretty much anything goes! (General forum etequitte still applies of course)
