Hi Everyone, My name is Chris and I'm a graphic designer trying to become a web designer. I am 24 years old and I'm getting married in May next year.

I've actually been trying to learn CSS for a few months on my own and i keep hitting brick walls. What really bugs me is I learned xhtml first and then when i get to CSS the books all say, uhh forget 95% of that stuff we just taught you.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forums! I can understand how learning CSS might be frustrating, especially if you come from a graphic design background. Just remember that if it has to do with what things look like, or how they are layed out, do it with CSS.

Hello Chris,

Welcome to the Forums.

I, too also have issues learning CSS (Ha, to ask Megan for help; thanks for kindly providing advice)....

I am still learning slowly; just keep going and you will do it.

Happy New Year!

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the coolest webmaster forum!

I know a guy who has the same story as you do. My only advice for graphic designers is to get learning it from the W3C, not from some hobby sites.

No offence to web design blogs, it is just that one needs to develop a technical sense before going on the web.

You need to learn what is DOM, what means elements to have 'layout', what are semantics, the "box model" and so on.. Just get down to reading w3c schools. Smiling

And an advice - in web design looking good is not just enough, it must be technically correct (addressing the code).

This is business, not a personal expression of your art.
