Hey all,

I almost became a web designer since it was a hobby of mine but alas, grad school won me over. Going to law school (hopefully) next year.

Quick info-bits:

  • I don't like Flash. Yet everyone wants it. This makes me Sad
  • Everytime I want to apply for a web design job the ad in the paper always wants someone with Perl, MySQL, and ActiveScript skills. WTF are these?
  • I've come to realize that clients are the life's blood of a professional web designer and its bane.
  • I will never to be fully able to use CSS. It's like I'm impaired.
  • I use Notepad to code.

Lock yourself in a room and do nothing but CSS for a weekend and you'll be able to do it in your sleep.

Guarantee it! Smiling

Perl's a programming language; MySQL is a database system; ActiveScript is a scripting language, similar to Javascript, that Flash uses.

Tech job ads almost always require knowledge of buzzwords; some are bad, others are worse, hopefully you're in a position to be choosy. Wink

Apart from low cashflow, there should be nothing stopping you attempting interesting ventures of your own! Smiling

There are quirks in all browsers that will stop you being able to use CSS as it was intended, anyway. Most you can do is try. Wink

I started with Notepad too. Probably the best way to get to know your code as you learn. Might be worth your while picking up a more powerful tool in the future.
