I doubt half of the designers out there design for WAP.
And I doubt that of those that do, actually design all their sites to be compatable with WAP. I think it depends on the site wether or not you should WAP enable it.
BTW, I don't know how to code for WAP.

The other half would probably think that WAP is the sound of hitting someone in the back of the head with a rolled-up newspaper.
But seriously people will start developing for it when users want it. The design should be a cinch. Just design on a smaller scale. The technology is still not quite there yet but coming... maybe.

I have a feeling you'll see HTML and HTTP compatible mobile devices before you see a large use of WAP.
It's defiantly fun though. I've coded a couple sites and had one live for a couple months. There's not enough wireless interest yet for my average client to spend the extra cash for a wireless ready site though.
