Hi all,

I love lurking around and finally got to post something which I couldn't find the answer for.

I want to play music on a website, and I want the music to stay on all the time even when the user goes to another page.

On the other hand I won't like to use frames and such because of SEO considerations.

Any ideas?

thanks people.

You can't have the music continuously playing while the user moves around the site without using frames. I can't think of any way around that. The other alternative would be to build a flash site which isn't good for SEO either.

You do understand the risks of doing this, right? A lot of users hate music on web pages. In fact, I often hit the back button if I come across a site with music playing automatically.

I'm glad you finally posted here! I hope you keep participating here Smiling

you could use a seperate window. A pop-up (or popunder) so the player plays in that and while the user browses the main window the music will still play.
**greg cringes at the meer thought of suggesting that as an option**

I have to agree with Megan, and so do most people. As soon as I hear music I usually just click button back while I cringe.
If I am struggling to find something and that site may have what I am looking for, I may try to find the volume/mute/audio off options
but that's rare

I generally just click back

what if I dont like the music? what if I'm already listening to music and enjoying the peak moment of a quality led zeppelin song. I wont appreciate your spoiling that and therefore wont use the site

It's a typical example of something that can be done, but should never be done
to novice webmasters it's a whole new fantastic ability, but to the rest of the world it's a nightmare

i have a music section on my personal blog, but I don't have any auto play or anything. I use flash for the player, but the music stops when you navigate. So I have the option of poping up a new window with the player in it, so the user can continue to navigate and keep the music going if they want.

Basically, unless it a website for a band then i wouldn't bother. The only way round it is by using Flash.

do you know imeem?

some would just simply create a flash mp3 player, but for beginners use embedded mp3 players for you to play music online.

You have to give people the option to listen to music. Not much is more annoying than music that starts up as you enter a page. One creative solution was listed above. Launch an optional player in a pop up wiindow.
