Contact the hosting company as sometimes you need to enter ../../ for DW or something like that. Your hosts should be able to help you with it.

Well, what about trying to learn how to code the site by hand? That way you don't have to rely on a program to do it for you. Also, get yourself a seperate FTP program, if you are using Windows then SmartFTP is a pretty good program

Yes Suzanne, I entered the host name, directory, login name and password just as I had done in Namo.

As a check I connected to the host with Namo and the directory and path names are correct.

I then, more in desperation than hope, previewed the index page again in Namo and the date was then centered once more ! !

I uploaded before it changed its mind!

My problem now is that I don't understand why Dreamweaver isn't connecting corrrectly. It's probably my fault but I can't see how.

Any more ideas please?

Is that the right directory? I'm afraid I connect directly, I don't use an application like Dreamweaver, but if I did, I'd check to make sure the path was right as well.

A step in the right direction.

Having corrected the password it now seems to connect.

In the pop up window now it says "Verifying connection..." and at the botom of the Site window it says "Retrieving remote folder information for htdocs/."

However, it's stuck like that. I wonder what else I have/haven't done correctly?

I had entered the wrong password - it's been some time since I changed it and remembered it incorrectly.

I shall retire Namo from service and use Dreamweaver again in the future. (I had loaded Namo as I couldn't find the Dreamweaver disc after installing a new OS.)

Now let's see what happens .......

You haven't logged into the FTP server. Check the "site" part of the Dreamweaver settings and make sure you have entered a username and password...Chances are it's attempting to upload to the public FTP area.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I have re-loaded Dreamweaver and the date now stays centered in the Preview and the center instruction doesn't get hi-jacked by the editor.

However, when trying to connect to the host to upload changes a window pops bearing the message

"An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to host. 530 not logged in."

What the devil does that mean?
