I am not sure if what you want to accomplish can happen but before you give up try posting the project at You may find a programmer who at the very least can get your site to function close to what you want. Good Luck!

hmm ok, well if there is no foolproof method...the only problem is that the UK guys are actually resellers from the AU company...but then again i can see your point. How many people in their right mind will click AU when theres a UK link

I agree as there isn't going to be a foolproof method of doing this and as Suzanne says why not just have one site with two sections leading from the main page. If done right the first page would give the option of shopping on the correct store for where you live, I would say most people from the UK would go to the UK part if given the choice as they would assume that the AU site would be in dollars any way - we're not stupid you know!

Almost guaranteed to backfire -- better to promote the extra cost of shipping from AU to the UK as a reason to shop the UK store.

The company in question has a UK store and an Aussie store. The only difference is that the UK store sells half the products. They dont want the UK visitors going to the AU site because its cheaper

Check out Google, it does that.

IN GENERAL, I'd recommend against it, unless you are doing it to redistribute server load and serve practically identical content regardless. Otherwise, someone from one country seeking information about another country may get permanently redirected and therefore annoyed/upset.

there are javascripts that you can find (i think at hotscripts.com) that will redirect depending on the users ip address

I'm not sure of a fool proof method, as people in Australia and NZ can use AT&T, AOL etc as internet providers (USA connections) and I think in NZ we can go through Australia as well (costs heaps thou).
You could do cookies and offer the choice on first visit, next time they will be directed to their choice next visit.
