AOL "had" been in bed with Microsoft for a long time but their contract to bundle AOL with Windows was up last year. New versions of Windows like XP do not come bundled with AOL or CompuServ any longer.

Didn't they have a contract with MS? I was under the impression that they traded use of IE for placement on the windows desktop and that's why they had to keep using IE.

I'm glad this may be finally happening! Competition in the browser market is a good thing

As for OE - we are strongly encouraged not to use it here at work just because of the virus problems. All the other places I've worked have had the same attitude to OE. In fact, in one office I worked in we were strictly NOT ALLOWED to use OE. I'd like some better recommendations as well. I don't really like Eurdora at all, NS6/Mozilla e-mail is okay, Opera won't work with my e-mail address... forget why. I've just been using OE at home lately out of laziness

Surprised AOL has been using MS's product this long while they own Netscape. I hope they use Mozilla and not Netscape, though.

I guess all good things must come to an end sooner or later.

Hate to change the subject here but while looking at related news on this subject that doublehelix posted I found THIS ARTICLE about Microsoft's Outlook Express.

Microsoft seems to be getting a lot of bad raps these days. I have heard things about Outlook Express before but didn't really pay them much attention. This makes me want to use another e mail app. Anyone have any recommendations?

Not to mention the fact that AOL owns Netscape

Yep, Mozilla keeps getting better and better. Version 1 is scheduled for release soon. AOL is not on very good terms with MS right now is one of the reasons for them wanting to use something besides IE.
