Hi,

My friend changed my password on Windows XP for a laugh and won't tell me it until friday. Is there anyway I can get in and change it like an admin or something?
Or is there a program or way to bypass it?

The best way is to beat the crap out of him until he gives you it Wink

There is no way to change it unless you know the password. You could always resort to reinstalling windows XP but I doubt you want to do that.

If you have recently ghosted your drive and have an extra hard drive (or two cd drives - one of them a cd/dvd burner) you can put in a linux live CD and copy things over to your other harddrive or burn on to cd/dvd.

I like teammatt3 answer about the beating but I have to disagree about the no way to change bit.

If you have not placed a password on the Hidden Administrators profile then you can access the Administrator profile from Safe Mode and make changes to User profiles that way. If absolutely necessary you can create a new Admin profile to use temporarily when you reboot to normal mode then make the profile changes.

In case you are unaware of Safe mode it is reached by pressing the F8 key at boot up. This should take you to the options menu which will give you the option of Safe Mode. You will get some warnings that you are in safe mode, but you can ignore them and just "OK" your way through them ... Your screen will look strange because Video drivers do not load in Safe Mode.

If there is a password on the Default System Administrator profile you are in for a bit of trouble. The only way at that point is to have a Linux boot disk and alter the Sam files. There are freeware ISOs available to do this but it can be touch and go on finding the correct one ...

You can try the following from Major Geeks web site:

you can actually go to safemode as advised and access the default user, other than the admin with the password... go to control panel and user profiles, click the user with the problem password you forgot, click forgot password, and there are instructions for retrieving them...

Boy is that a predicament! Is the account your friend locked the admin of the computer? Or do you have only one account on the computer?

Give me a break. This person is really asking "How do I hack into my friend's computer?"

I may as well post that I'm Bill Gates and I lost my PIN number to my bank account. Does anyone know how I can retrieve it?

well that's simple, open the pc, and reset the password jumper, that's the only thing you have to do
