Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem I am having sending e-mail in Outlook.

I use my laptop when I am away from home and can receive e-mail no problem but can't send. At home I am on a cable modem and when I away I am on a dial-up through AOL.

I remember doing something once by luck and it worked but have not been able to do it again. I tried setting mail servers to go through AOL and turned off my firewall but it still would not send.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?

Regards,
Daniel

Are you using @aol.com email? If not, AOL may not permit using mail servers other than theirs.

No, I have a optonline.net email.

The problem is most likely in your settings for the outgoing SMTP server.

Here is the Support Link page for Outlook setup with optonline.net

Compwolf is correct, that is 99.9% likely to be an outgoing SMTP server issue.

It sounds like Outlook probably has the correct SMTP server that Optonline.net has set up for you to use. The problem is probably that they won't let you connect to their SMTP mail server (mail.optonline.net) from outside their network.

Having formerly worked for AOL, last I knew, you could not use their outgoing mail server through standard programs like Outlook.

It sounds like your situation calls for using webmail. Does Optonline.com provide webmail access?

The only other thing I can think of to do is call Optonline.com, describe your situation to them, and see what they suggest.
