The computer I do all of my work on is my desktop. My primary business use for my laptop is just when I demo websites. But that usage is less and less frequent. I used it just last week, but I can't remember the last time I used it for demoing before that. Maybe as long ago as a year.
It is nice to be able to control the environment in which the website is being demoed. Obviously, the website should scale to any environment, but with all that can go wrong during a demo, the more control I have, the better.
If your main computer is a desktop, how often do you use your laptop for your business? And what do you use it for?

i only use my laptop. I haven't had a "usabale" desktop system of my own for a bout 2 years. I had one at where I worked, but usually still used my laptop.
I think it is wise to use your own laptop to demo a website so that you know the client is less likely to grab and run with your work. Yeah, legally they can't but taking along your laptop is a good safe step to aviod legal crap and costs if something did happen.

I use my laptop for the same purpose as you tim, but then when im off to the field i also use it work on... I closely match the specs of both my desktop to laptop and use synching to match the profile of one to the other... They even use the same backup drives for restoration. Its like having an identical PC...

I'm curious, Demonhale, but how does software licensing figure into that setup? I know some programs (like Dreamweaver and other Macromedia/Adobe products) let you have a second copy on your laptop under the normal license. Are there some programs you buy a second license to?

as far as im concerned i read the eula and yes it does allow me a second copy of my softwares, although the Win installation is a different licensed one than on my desktop, those were some of my concerns when I planned to sync up my desktop and my laptop so I read each software I intend to use in the other machine......
