Anyone here got a dual channel ram setup? I have one gig of pc2-6400 ram and I was wondering if it is worth the extra hundred bucks to get another gig stick for dual channel. Right now my setup is like this:

AMD X2 3800
1 gig of Corsair pc2-6400
7600GT from BFG
10,000 RPM 36gig Raptor HD (these things are soooo nice)

Do you think I'll notice a performance increase? The only real intensive programs I run are Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Half-Life 1-2. I use/play these all the time so it'd be nice for them to run a faster.

What do you think?

EDIT: Geez, Firefox uses more memory than ImageReady and Dreamweaver combined, you better add that to memory intensive apps.

If you decide to move to Windows Vista I would recommend it. Word on the street is that it's a huge memory hog, and 1 gig is about the bare minimum if you want it to run smoothly.

Well It does really push the wait time... I should say you should add that other DDR and get 2Gig worth of mem on your machine. What I do advise after installing it though is to go to expert mode and set your page file usage on the disk to low, making it use the new RAM modules more for a faster machine...

Well, that's impossible for us to say, as you'd have to consider the opportunity cost yourself. Smiling

Sure, if I had nothing better to spend my money on, I'd go for the extra RAM. Given that you have a 10,000 RPM HDD, you'll probably notice the improvement. It can be worth the extra money.

Yeah, especially if you run a lot of big extensions. Sad
